|
|
So I'll be heading back home around the new year. I came here with two full suitcases, and I've only gotten more stuff since. I need to send a big box home - probably 30 pounds or more - and I'm wondering what the cheapest options are. Time isn't an issue, it could take 6-8 weeks to get there without bothering me in the slightest. I've heard people talk about how you can send stuff home cheap, or how a friend mailed a suitcase home for $100 or whatever, but I've never gotten any details. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks! |

At the post office you can ship packages "surface". They say it can take 1-3 months, but I just mailed two boxes to the East coast of the US in October and they arrived in 5 weeks.
I believe the cost was about 60,000 to send 30-35kgs between 2 boxes, though I could be a bit off on the cost.
The form you fill out at the post office as an option you check for either air or surface. Just select surface and you should be good to go. |

That sounds pretty good! Do they sell the boxes, or will any box work? |

Go to your local post office, buy a couple of #5 boxes (the largest physical size they let you send to N.A. by surface mail).
You can put UP TO 20kg (44lbs) in each box.
The cost is 48k won for 20kg (less for lower weights).

about a buck a pound....not bad.
we sent a bunch of stuff home a few months ago, but in the final clean up noticed that we forget to pack some souvenirs and other odds and ends. these prices seem decent. |

How about bulk shipping services? Example: you can stuff a cubic meter box up to a certain maximum weight, guys come to your house to move it and you can pick it up from customs in your home country or have it shipped to your home? |

Actually I was just asking a Korean colleague about this last week. She said that you can send a box by surface mail for about 100,000 Won and that there is no weight limit. She said that she did it before. I haven't been down to the post office to check out the details on that but I'll probably go this week or next. I'll post what I find out there. |
