I just set up my appointment to interview at the Korean consulate in Atlanta. The website says that it is a job interview and to dress professional yadda yadda.. I already have my job lined up and just need to get my passport stamped. I just think its weird that I already signed the contract and essentially have the job, but I still have to interview. Has anyone ever failed their interview and been denied entry to Korea? Why do they need to interview you? To make sure you don't seem like a pedophile or something? I am a 25 year old girl that just wants to teach, travel and learn a new culture so I don't see why I would possibly be turned down. Any thoughts on this?

Hello, i will be going up there in the next couple weeks. i have heard that these are pretty straight forward interviews with a few wacky questions thrown in but in general one of the recruiters told me they do not refuse E-2 visa status often. Please let me know how it goes! I will be in your shoes very soon.

I have to do my interview soon, too....I was just going to brush up on Korean current events and stuff but I doubt I'll be quizzed on that or anything. I think they just want to make sure you're not a lunatic or something...

I did my interview at the Atlanta consulate in July. Basically, you will arrive at the scheduled time along with 4-5 other applicants. It is a group interview, so you will all be taken to a conference room down the hall. When the consular officer comes in, he will have each person's application packet (transcripts, visa application form, copy of school contract, resume, etc.). Expect to be asked 2-3 straightforward questions about your application materials. For example:

Have you been to Korea before?
What other countries have you visited?
What was your major in college?
Have you taught before?
Have you read your contract and do you understand what it says?
Do you realize that ____ is not near Seoul? (That question was for me, since the consular officer seemed shocked that I wanted to be far, far away from Seoul )

Expect the interview to take approximately 5 minutes per person, so ~30 min for the entire group. When everyone is done, you will go to the window and find out when your passports will be mailed back. You also have the option of picking them up in person the next morning.

For what it's worth, the only person in my group who didn't get their visa was a woman who had admitted to having anxiety and depression on her health clearance form.

I went to the consulate in Los Angeles. They only do walk-ins. I went in, filled out a paper, paid $45, and waited for 5 minutes outside the "interview room." When it was my turn, I went in. The man said my name. Then "You're going to Daejeon?" Me:"Yes." Man"Okay. Your visa will be ready tomorrow morning." That was all for me.

I have my interview on Monday. I will drive to Atlanta from North Carolina for a simple interview that serves little purpose. I'll stay the night at a friend's so I'll be able to pick up my passport with visa the next day. I guess my Hagwon will purchase my ticket once I have my visa in hand!

I"m so excited but this whole process has been really involved. Some things seem logical while some aspects like this interview does not. I mean, if they had a consulate in every state that would be a little bit of a different story but some folks have to travel many miles to get to the nearest consulate.

I'm so ready for this to be OVER!
