Anyone with insight and (or) experience with Anaheim's online MA TESOL prog? Anyone doing an MA TESOL here in Korea (online or onsite)? Please PM me as I am interested to pursue and would like to discuss further. Thank you. |

You will be pleased to know that Anaheim's residential programme this year is being held in Seoul.
Three of their tutors: Dr. David Nunan, Dr. Kathleen Bailey and Dr. Rod Ellis will be here AND they are the plenary speakers for the KOTESOL International Conference.
Anaheim will have a display table at the Conference with staff at hand to discuss anything you wish. There will also be Anaheim students attending the Conference, too.
Check out the KOTESOL website:

Hope you can join us! |

...a bump...
...anyone enrolled in the upcoming Anaheim program...or been in a past one?
Insights into this would be nice....as a newer program...and school....it would be nice to see how they are doing. |

Like tzechuk said, they'll be in Seoul next month on the weekend. Just wait until then and go talk to them. That's what I plan to do. |

...yeah...I know...but by that time...the course will have started and the opportunity to do the Seoul intensive will be over.
Anyway...if anyone has any experience with this course...it would be appreciated. |

Ive been part of Anaheim Universitys MA TESOL program for 3 classes now, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interesting in pursuing the ESL/EFL field at a higher academic level. When I first entered the program, I was skeptical, thinking that online learning would not engage mebut I was wrong. The content is challenging yet practical, and I feel my teaching improving in ways I had never considered. So far Ive had Professors Cummings, Wajnryb, and Bailey, and each has proven to be a leader in the field and a master at online teaching. I find myself participating more actively and considering the issues more deeply than I ever was able to do in face-to-face classes. In addition, Ive had the chance to meet amazing classmates from all over the worldclassmates I will meet for the first time next month in Seoul!
Needless to say, Im extremely glad I decided to join Anaheim University. It has often been challenging, especially working a full-time job while studying, but help is always available if you need it. Do you have any specific questions about the program? Id love to help and think you are doing the right thing by getting different perspectives on the programs that interest you.
Best of luck. |

I've been at Anaheim since January, and it has been the best thing I have ever done: enlightening, rewarding and it is giving me practical ideas that I can take immediately into the classroom. It is hard work and some of the courses are pretty demanding, but I assure you it is all worthwhile.
I was drawn by the names Ellis, Nunan, Bailey, Cummings, Wajnryb, and not only are these professors some of the most well known and knowledgeable, but like all the university staff, very helpful and inspiring. The bonus, however, is the other students in the course. Student-centered learning is a core of course and I am studying with and learning from some great people with varying backgrounds and huge amount of knowledge and ideas. It is great.
On the administrative side, the course consists of two years course and then the dissertation, about two and half years in total.
I hope you can join us. |

I am interested in this programme but, from what I have read, the residential programmes are held outside Korea. DOes anyone know if there are plans to move them over here? I am sure there would be enough demand... |

It all depends how many people in one country are studying for the degree. If there are enough people, I'm sure they'd come. I believe Tokyo is a residential site. |

They have it this year in Korea for KOTESOL. They are SO WONDERFUL to be so accommodating and so ready to support us.

Considering they've slashed their tuition by 50% due to the recession and a bunch of donations from businesses, maybe they are. Sounds interesting, anyways. |

|

From what I know about the October residential workshops, of which there are two during the two years of course work, they are usually held in California, near Anaheim. This year, due to a large percentage of students in the course that live in Japan and Korea, and Kotesol being held at the time of residential, it was decided to have it in Seoul this year.
I have a feeling it will be back in the US next year, just a feeling. The US and Canadian students have to come a long way this year. It is only fair they have an easier go of it next year.
As for Tokyo being a possible venue for the residentials, yes, it is possible as Anaheim U has offices and the affiliated business and film schools there. |

There is little I can add to the 100% raves about AU online with nary a speck of doubt. How rare is that?
However, if I may, Id like to explain why I am so impressed with the online experience.
I was invited by 2 New York profs to come from England for undergrad study at CCNY, NYU or Columbia. Looking at the fees, I chose the totally free CCNY, before its current open admissions. Yes, a mistake, but I didnt know that I would later receive an open scholarship. CCNY was a brain factory, everyone trudging head down in sombre clothes and slide rules in their pockets (see how old I am?). Took a semester off to tour the country for a more comfortable univ. Saw maybe 2 dozen. Harvard: huge lecture halls with the prof just a dot in the distance; Miami: fun and parties; Rice: gorgeous but too rich and typical bible belt frats and sports; Berkeley: another monster lecture setup but was shut down by the Free Speech revolution, so I moved down to UCSD and loved its then tiny ambiance.
Finally, AU online. It is the only way to study and focus. No distractions, only you and the profs and your cyber colleagues. The mood is work, and results. No clubs, no gossip, no falling in love (until the residentials, and even then everyone is preoccupied with assignments).
During the AU process, you are struck by the intense and genuine support and concern for each other, not in spoken words that blow away in the campus wind, but there forever, written in the posts, for you to reread, and feel uplifted and more determined.
There is a pleasant and real-world instructive blend of English levels, enhanced by global personalities and cultures, and huge respect for the NNS members.
When you graduate from AU, you will know you have earned your degree, and will possess a deep feeling of true accomplishment and confidence in your new expertise.
You will have studied with a world of students, and be ready to work in any country. Everything you teach will evoke proud and grateful memories of AU and their unequalled faculty and support staff.
Now the raves have reached 200%.

Does anyone else find the posts by brenty, Bun, and melissatan a little fishy? I don't know; it's something about their join dates all being within this week and how well polished their posts appear. |

...those who doubt are not deceived.
...just the same...I did ask for the information....so...to the person(s) who took the time to create three usernames and write the posts...well done.
They are well written and offer a unique perspective of online education.
I will contince to check this thread and will be hearing more from AU directly.
Again...thanks for the contributions...appreciated. |
