| HI. I work for Costco, right now we're having a super special sale on survival kits. They include everything you need for an emergency. |

Anything special you need? You really need to look around and see what appeals to you. My advice is to check out the bakery section. |

When it comes to Costco in Korea, the term "good deals" is relative, at least for my shopping needs. In general, I was very disappointed with it, as I saw no real bargains. But since they do carry a few western items that are hard to find elsewhere, like pepperjack cheese, I finally broke down and bought a membership. It was not cheap, however, and I would grumble under my breath every time I went there. |

| I checked out Costco and was not at all impressed. I didn't see any good deals, and if anything it seemed overpriced. Needless to say I didn't get a membership. Home Plus works just fine for me. |

Regarding healthy choices, I think prices are reasonable on frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, frozen shrimp, chicken breasts, salsa, good pasta sauce, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and so on.
Regarding less healthy choices, they have a good selection of cheeses, imported cereals, big bags of awesome kettle chips, and the pies and cakes are great too.
I don't know why people here grumble about Costco- as if the 35,000 a year membership fee is something to complain about? Give me a break... |

| Personally, I think the best deals Costco has are in the cafeteria. I will also mention cheese, chicken breast, and ground beef. In general I find that Costco is more of a place to find certain hard to find items than a place for great deals. |

You can get good quality australian beef for around 14,990/KG and pork for around 8,990/KG.
2KG box of Raisin Bran beats the price of any cereal at E-mart or the like for 10,000W.
Frozen good quality beef patties, 20,000W for 18.
Decent quality Hamburger/Hot dog buns but they're more expensive than E-mart. Much higher quality though.
Bacon is cheaper, 2 packages in a bundle for around 10,000W. I've seen the same 2 packs at emart for around 14k.
Other food items are generally cheaper but you're going to have to buy them in bulk which can make it seem like a lot. |

Well, you are right, 35k is not that big of deal for a year when it comes down to it. It's just that there wasn't anything there that I really needed or that I felt was a much better bargain than Homeplus, especially when I had to pay 20k round trip train fare every time I went there. My point is I only went there for a few select hard to find items- other then those I did not see any real bargains. That is what I grumbled about.
But I don't knock those who like it and find bargains for the things they like. It's just not for everyone. |

The black olives and dill pickles are the cheapest around.
There are a few things I can't find in Korea that I get at Costco-mainly Turkey ham. I don't usually eat pork so............. Their coissants aren't bad tasting and the price is OK. |

Yeah, at 35,000 won. It's a pittance compared to North America where membership begins at 50 bucks and that doesnt include taxes. |

| Shopping at Costco does mean buying bigger sizes and spending more money than some would like. But if you think long-term, shopping at Costco can save you money. You need to make good use of your freezer to do it with the meats. Experienced shoppers who plan meals understand how to do this better than the shoppers who say "It's dinner time, again? What am I gonna eat today?." |

Basically it's useful for meats, cheeses, and select import items that rarely can be found elsewhere. Also massive birthday cakes and pies.
The bacon is a steal--about 20 bucks for almost 2 kilos, where the same amount of bacon (of lesser quality) at Homeplus would cost about 30.
They sell choice cuts of beef for much less than the other department stores, too. I also found out last week that my membership was for 2 years. It works out to 17500 won a year, which is more than 50% cheaper than back home. |

Survival kits? I'm not sure if this is a joke or not.
Does the Costco in Korea carry a decent brand of kitty litter? And if so, does anyone know how big and how much it costs? |
