What does this involve? I understand notarization is done by a local solicitor and the apostillation by the dept of foreign affairs.
Does this have to be done for the degree and CRC?
Can a degree be apostilled before its notarized?
How much does each cost?

commissioner of oaths (usually a solicitor) charges about �10-�20
Dept of foreign affairs charges �20 for each stamp they give.
Photocopy your degree, take it to the commissioner of oaths get them to sign and stamp it. (take original with you too)
Then take the copy to the office of the supreme court (in the four courts), they will confirm the original signature is that of a commissioner of oaths and they will stamp it. (this is free)
Finally take the copy to the dept of foreign affairs in stephen's green and get it stamped. (�20)

the background check should take about 1-2 weeks to get from your local Gardai station. Do not get the Thurles check cos you don't need it. The check is free and is basically a letter from the superintendent confirming you have no criminal background.
Take this letter to the dept of foreign affairs and get it stamped there too. You don't need the commissioner of oaths to sign this as it's already signed by the superintendent. (again, this stamp is �20) |

The thing I will be getting it apostilled at the Cork dept foreign affairs, is there an equivalent of the office of the supreme court in Cork?
Also does the commissioner of oaths have to be local? |

i have no idea about the supreme court, I would suggest ringing them tomorrow and asking. They are actually really really nice to deal with and always quick and friendly to get things sorted for you and help you out.
No, if he/she knows you then it's easy enough. If they don't just bring some ID and the original degree to prove you are who you are and it is what you say it is.
I got my first degree stamped in Dublin as I didn't know it had to be done (the people in the four courts gave me a list of people who could do it in the surrounding area). I just showed him my passport and the original.
I got it done locally this last time around though. I didn't have to show him anything and my g.f who is not from the area got hers done at the same time, but cos he knew me he didn't ask for any ID or anything from her. |

| The solicitor I went to tried to charge E50 for each document. I refused to pay her E100 for 5 minutes work. So be prepared to be shocked. |

| If you go to notarypublic.ie they have a list of notaries you can visit. The guy I went to charged me �30. You only need to get the copy of your degree notarized. Then when you have that done you have to get it Apostilled. I sent my CBC and notarized degree copy to Dublin, �20 for each document and got it back in a week. You can go to any notary you want, local or otherwise. I went to the closest one to me. |

| The solicitor I went to notarised it for free so it depends who ya go to, if it's the family solicitor they might do it for free for you too. |
