I am wondering what everyone else is going to do for their winter camp. I am thinking of two weeks of a movie theme with them creating an english movie for their end project and one week of a cultural theme with them at the end going to Itaewon and asking questions to foreigners. |

can you please not do the survey idea? it sounds like a great idea in theory, but these surveys happen so often that they generally annoy many foreigners. also, some foreigners aren't going to be that friendly and polite to a bunch of kids asking the same questions over and over again. |

What kind of teaching goals are you looking to hit with this? If you are just looking to fill time with movies (I understand, I have done that), you can still work it with some educational benefits.
I use worksheets:
First on peoples appearance ( curly hair, straight hair, round face, slim, etc)
Next on emotion ( angry, happy, sad, etc)
Finally real world situations (eating, driving a car, flying on an airplane)
Then when I show the movie, I work the worksheets into the after film exerciser. Let them use the language they use from the worksheets to describe the movie.
Example, have them describe the characters: He is a tall, slim man with curly hair and a thin face (Tom Hanks). Have them talk about the emotions they think the characters feel. Start with some short films. Have them write their own movie review (in groups) and publish the review - set up a simple website using one of the free website hosters. Give them some colorful markers and butcher paper and have them make a movie poster (in groups) for the film, and talk about what they make and why (put it up on the website also).
For most of my classes, for them to write their own movie would be difficult. One idea, take some clips from old movies, something with both action and dialogue and play them without sound and let the students speak out their own dialogue like from the old TV show who's line is it anyway? |
