Hello all. Has anyone here prepared a survival pack, and if so, what did you include? I am wondering too if anyone knows a good place to buy a gas mask in Seoul. I am thinking something similar to the ones you see in the subway which are meant to keep you alive and breathing in a smoke filled environment.

So, I'm putting together a "survival pack" just in case of war. So far, I've just got a backpack to put everything in, 3 one-liter bottles of water, clothes, candles, and a lighter. I'm thinking of stocking up on cans of tuna (one a day to keep me going) and I am experimenting with soaking rice (in order to eat it) but so far this experiment is not working. What is a good food item that won't go bad quickly but provides lots of energy? I was actually thinking of buying kimchi here for the first time in my life, but it is space-filling. I need something compact with energy, full of nutrition, and light-weight. Today my co-workers at my new job told me that dried seaweed is great for survival but I am not so sure. It seems like it is full of salt, which may dehydrate you.

I found google not as useful. Some dumb suggestions there. I mean, we live in Korea, a cold environment, and Koreans know survival food. Rice, kimchi, seaweed would totally get me by. I was thinking of purchasing something so that I could cook rice every night. I'd be going on foot heading towards busan by the way.

I am trying to be realistic here and only include the necessary items for about 1 week or pure survival... and I only have a North Face backpack to put it all in.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to pack?

Well you definitely want to get a battle ready katana. They have great reach (prevent infection from blood contact) and are an excellent way too destroy the brain.
I don't know if you plan on going on it solo (wouldn't recommend it), but you should make sure at least a few people in your party are experienced with archery as a crossbow is a very quiet distance weapon. You can use it for self defense as well as hunting.

Good luck!

If war did break out, I'm quite sure that the subway station attendants wouldn't be too concerned about stopping you from stealing one.

Next time try steaming the rice first. Drop in a spoonful of yeast with the rice then let it soak for at least a week.

Tacos. Stock up on them now. While you're at it make sure you get yourself a good supply of kebabs as well.

Why not get an electrician to modify your rice cooker to accept DC power. Maybe you could steal one of the many bikes that will surely be abandoned after the Norks invade and hook up your rice cooker to the lamp dynamo. While you're hiding out in your cave, you could use the bike/generator to keep fit AND power your rick cooker.
