Yes yes, I'm sure most people who reply to this will be from the Galaxy S thread, come to parp on about their super-dooper-up their pooper AMOLED screen and their extra 8GB memory. I get it. The S is slightly better hardware. Well done.
I was happy to take the bigger discount LG were offering me because I've been with them a long time and hey, apparently I get better battery life out of the U because of my simple AMOLED screen. All in I'm very happy with my hardware.
What I'm not happy with is my lack of froyo. Any other U users getting trouble? Kies just tells me I have the latest firmware so it can't be updated, but I'm still resolutely stuck in eclair. Anybody with any insight out there? |

Smart consumers only buy what they need.....if the Galaxy U is all you need then you've made a good choice and saved some money.
Has Froyo been promised for the Galaxy U? You might want to go into an SKT store and ask. If it is entitled to Froyo then the sales assistant might just do it for you there and then if you smile and compliment his shiny silver suit!! |

I wouldn't recommend asking in an SKT store... the Galaxy U is an LG Telecom phone.
To answer the question, Froyo hasn't been released for the Galaxy U yet. It's the only Galaxy phone in Korea that hasn't been updated. The Galaxy A, Galaxy S, and Galaxy K all have Froyo now. Samsung has said the update for the U is coming at the end of November, but knowing Samsung it could be delayed much later than that. |

Yep, sorry jumped in prematurely with my post there. I found a newspaper article about the S update where they also mentioned U would be updated before the end of this month, though I too am taking that with a pinch of salt.
Only got my phone yesterday and got to say enjoying it a lot so far. Will be a lot nicer with skype once froyo appears tho~~ |

I have a Galaxy U aswell...
However, 2 things I have an issue with is;
Formatting/reinstalling the device doesn't get rid of the useless Korean apps.
Anyone know if I download and install the firmware the phone will actually have a 'clean' install?
Attempting to format/reinstall my phone has resulted in my Dictionary loosing it's database, anyone happen to know where I can re-download this? |

I'm fairly sure the only way to get rid of all the pre installed apps is to root the phone~ and from what I've heard even then it's only possible to uninstall some of them.
I have a couple of questions too~ Seems like there's no swype on the U. Anybody able to confirm this.
Also would love to know a way to disable notifications from the inbuilt messaging app. I'm using handcent but get 2 notifications for every message which is a little annoying.
BTW anybody else using music junk? I saw on the android apps thread other people mentioning music apps that give you minute previews. Music Junk will find any song, western or korean and stream the whole thing and, if you're running froyo, download it too. It's of questionable legality but it works like a charm Another reason to wish LG get a shift on with 2.2 Let's hope it's not too much longer. |

Swype works fine on U mate.
Get Applanet and search for it from there.
I don't really want to root the phone as 90% of the info on Galaxy U is in Korean (understandably).
Might I recommend you get Fruit Ninja for your Galaxy? That game is friggin awesome haha. |

So I saw this just now
http://xportsnews.hankyung.com/?ac=article_view&entry_id=138481
which says froyo was released for the U at 10:30 yesterday morning. Anybody got it? I'm not at home so am (slowly) downloading kies in the office now to find out.
LG delivering 2 days earlier than promised? I'll believe it when I see it. |
