| That's not a rhetorical question, I actually want some recommendations. And I'm not talking K-Pop here. I mean bands or singer/songwriters that would be considered one of the best in the world if they were from the west. Alternative, rock, electro, etc. |

What the? I don't know what to call this stuff, but it's pretty groovy.
I see decent jazz kids down in Hongdae and elsewhere all the time, guess they never get together in a studio or anything though. |

Seo Taiji...all day long.
I also have a love for Cherry Filter but I've yet to figure out exactly why. |

| For dynamism in performance the group 선소리 산타령 (a traditional singing style) is really excellent. 안숙선 is one of the best singers in Korea as almost anyone would agree. 월하가인 is a contemporary/new traditional singing group that I really appreciate. They haven't recorded you would have to see them live. 이광수 is amazing. 장사익 is sort of losing his voice as he ages but he's amazing, too, and a great song-writer, not just a great singer. If you buy one of his recordings, though, get an older one. His latest stuff is too fusion for my tastes. |

| Jaurim. The lead singer, Kim Yuna, did some great solo stuff too. |

| Dude, there are countless... LEGENDS .... you need to visit a record store and ask around, meet Koreans in their mid 30's or 40's and spend hours talking about it.. |
