My brother and his wife are having the first grandchild and great-grandchild in both of their families next spring. My mother is throwing a baby shower and wants me to buy some "Korean baby stuff" for them.
I'm thinking of maybe getting one of those chest high baby carriers/blanket things I see the moms on the subway wearing.
Anybody else know of something uniquely Korean for a baby? Or where to buy baby stuff in Seoul?
I'm kind of at a loss. |

My son is American but born in Korea. We used tons of Korean baby things, including a podaegi (the carrier thingy). There are several tutorials online about how to use the podaegi. My son also has hanbok (traditional Korean clothing). Podaegi's are not cheap. You're probably looking at 60,000+ won. Maybe you could find it cheaper somewhere else though. I bought my son's hanbok for about 45,000 on gmarket.
Korean style diaper covers are really cute also. And of course super freaky Korean outfits. You can usually buy the outfits on sale at Emart or Homeplus. |

Some ideas.
I am the spring/summer pajama sender to all babies back home. They're light and cheap if you buy them on sale.
Also, I send the handkerchief for kids. They are used as mealtime or spit up cloths at home. You know, the ones the kids wear around their necks in the fall and winter. They've been a big hit for me. You can but them online or in the Emart baby section in packages. They're not expensive and they have fun patterns on them. (I've forgotten the name.)
The market has light blankets for kids that are smaller than single size and have cute pigs or animated flowers on them. These smaller blankets have been well received at home too. These are about 7,000-9,000.
Also, smaller face cloths with Kitty or other characters that you can but at the stationary store are useful and sort of unique.
(I have lots of friends with young kids and babies at home.)
Have fun shopping! |

Besides GMarket where can one purchase a podaegi? My best friend back home just had twins so I would like to get her one. Do Homeplus or Lotte Mart sell them?
Thanks!
P.S. Is the proper pronunciation like Po-day-gee? |

Yes, they do. The stores that sell baby clothes within the big stores will have them.
Po-day-gee, yes. |
