|
|
I should be looking to get a cell phone here in Korea soon. I'm not looking for anything fancy. I'd just like the ability to text in English with T9 or some type of predictive texting. What, if any, phones have capabilities to do this?
Thanks. |

in English? Usually not. The iPhone does, but honestly its far sketchier than the one I had back in canada several years ago. Some of the other android based smart phones likely do. |

I have made very good experiences with an Android phone (Galaxy-S for me, but most Android phones should work) plus "Smart Keyboard" from the app store.
Predictive and it has a user dictionary plus more options than you're allowed in a carry-on bag. Multiple languages available for free, e.g. it also works extremely well with German "Umlaut". Also has a Korean keyboard but no T9 for that. You can choose different layouts, so if you want to revert back to regular keys, no problem. There's a one week trial I believe.
Also lets you define your own smilies, shortcuts (e.g. "wtf" could be automatically converted to "with true friends" in your text) and and and. Backup your settings, dictionary etc. Unfortunately it seems to have a problem learning your preferred word when there's a choice, e.g. I too often write "I'm gone for good" instead of "I'm gone for home" and I can't count how many times I've sent "Hi it's of" instead of "Hi it's me". But the author gives frequent updates.
If you go for an Android phone, give it a try!
BTW it also lets you resize the key height if you have Wurstfingers like me, but that'll reduce your screen view.
"Better Keyboard" is not quite as good in my opinion. |

Funny though how T9 seems to work for some people while others try it once and then never again. As they say, there are two groups of people: Those who understand T9, and tggmmmppppdd wggmmm dmmmmmt! |
