|

hi everyone! i'm helping someone with their college admissions essay and she has a long quote which i told her to indent since it's longer than 4 lines long. Then, upon reading the MLA handbook, it states that it must be double spaced but her essay is all single spaced.
Anyone know for sure if college admission essays should be double or single spaced? What about direct quotes that are longer than 4 lines? it's actually 5 lines long. indent one inch from the left margin and leave the right margin alone.
as for the essay, do you indent beginning of each paragraph?
omg! it's been sooo long since....
thanks everyone!!! |

College app essays do not follow MLA style. On a side note, I'd advise against using such a long quote in a college app essay. |

I agree, that is a really long quote. Screening boards are more interested in what she has to say. Not someone else. Is the quote that vital to her essay? Can't she cut it down to one line? |

The entire essay would be double spaced, the quote would be single spaced with a double indent (so if your regular indent is 0.5", then quote=1"). There also needs to be one empty line above/below the quote, but that should be automatic with the double space. |
