Am I alone in thinking this, or does anyone else find that this is a bit much to claim as your own "teaching ideas" and "classroom strategies" that YOU have "developed over the years"

It's a fraud. What does Michael Cera know about teaching English in Korea?

Welcome to TEFL 101. Standard, tried, true, (and successful) text book methodology.

This guy should do well in Korea. He's worked out how to be a successful 'teacher' here, i.e., young, USA, suit and tie, big 'brainy' glasses, slowwww measured speach, confident, and plagiaristic. Well done that man. You can pass GO and collect $2,000 a month.

Bitter much? I'm sure you had your day under the cheesy sun. Pulling him apart for where he is from, how he looks & dresses makes you look bad, dad.

I know, we all have our own unique style, but this guy is a little much. He's pretending that he sits around wearing a suit, like it were pajamas, and that his webcam just spontaneously starts filming him... At least when celebrities used to do the "Sorry, I didn't see you come in" act on their folksy Christmas specials, they were implying that a camera crew suprised them, catapaulting them to viewers' living rooms...

I don't know why people are critical of him. 90% of the people I've met in Korea are just as dorky ergo 90% of people on this site are exactly the same.

Please accept my apologies if I hit a nerve there.

Good luck.

Nice deflection. Thanks for putting a finer point on my post.

Point is, he's taking credit for having "developed" the foundation of basic ESL classroom procedure (he invites your comments on his findings), and uses it as part of his portfolio- you think he's wearing that suit for you?

Sort of like claiming to be the inventor of pizza, its that basic.

Really? This guy posing that these are his methods is the equivalent of a new guy telling builders on a building site that he's just invented nails and the hammer.

How is he claiming to have developed it? He made a video saying what works for him in the classroom, end of story. All of what he is saying is common sense / freely available / basic teacher training.

Would you be happy if he devoted a fair portion at the end of the video for citation? Teacher, A. (20XX) Common F'ing Sense - The Idiots Guide to the Lame Profession of ESL Teaching. London and New York: D1kWod Press

Are you jealous / threatened by him?

OK. Lets put the record straight. We're not jealous. We're not threatened by him. We're not bitter. Here's what is annoying some posters (myself included):

"I wanted to share some of my teaching ideas.... and some of my classroom strategies that I've developed over my years of teaching. ..."

You can say that calling this guy out is bitter if you like (up to you), but I still say that this is the equavilent of telling builders you've invented nails and the hammer. If you're gonna try and pass off basic stuff like this as your 'developments,' you're going to be ribbed by people who know better. And a word to our youtube teacher guy, if you have an interview for a uni job - and there's a western academic on the panel - and you spout this stuff - you're likely to be crucified.

Anyway, good luck youtube guy. Korean employers can't tell the difference between a CELTA and an on-line certificate - so maybe he's onto something.

Apologies in advance if this is too bitter.
