personally I still think it's a better deal for Korea, though the increased access for US automakers is an interesting wildcard, if they can make cars that would appeal to Koreans. I would think some models, especially the higher end ones would have some cache among prestige seekers, etc.

btw.. the 2.5% US tariff on K cars is meaningless, whether now or in 5 years. Thanks to the complete crappiness of the won, Korea is already 14% ahead, so if you take away 2.5% they're merely 12% ahead. Big deal. No wonder the Korean automakers are very pleased. They can increase their foothold and market share in the biggest car market on Earth for the moment. If need be the K govt will be happy to manipulate the crappy exchange rate to become even crappier.

the other wild card is opening up financial services to US companies. That's interesting but learning the Korean market and understanding Korean "culture" in the way things are done will be daunting to US financial newcomers. Of course, the smart one will have the benefit of hiring well educated fully bilingual gyopos to oversee and set up operations here.
