I got accepted for a university position that will start in March. That will also mark the 6-month mark of my EPIK contract. I'm trying to take into account everything I need to worry about or check on in regards to ending my contract early and would appreciate any help.
First, I have a release letter (or what I assume to be as I asked for one and they gave me something in Korean to take to the uni when I sign my contract) from my school and there's no bad blood there. They've been extremely helpful actually. Here are the things I'm unsure about:
Article 6 says my visa will be cancelled, but this is only about resignation. It doesn't say anything about changing jobs. I believe I can keep it without having to do anything.
Article 9 says the national pension is refunded when someone is leaving the country, and there's again nothing about changing jobs or contracts. So I assume I don't apply for a refund for what I've paid already and wait until whenever I leave Korea.
Article 12 says the housing "security deposit will be returned to the Employee at the end of the contract." It seems I should get that back then right? It doesn't say at the completion of the contract or after any specific amount of time, but I imagine this might be something they fight.
So if anyone has any experience or knowledge about this kind of thing, I'd love to hear it. Of course, one problem that can complicate the contract is that what matters is what's said in Korean, so who knows what might be a bit different there. Thanks for the help. |

You are correct with the pension. I transferred from a GEPIK job to a university and nothing really happens with the pension. Just, you keep the money in your pension account, and the new university job will automatically start paying into your new pension account. Easy peasy, nothin to worry about |
