| I'm interested in going on some hikes around Seoul and wanted to know some favorite places people have been to. I live in Gangnam and am really interested in taking a hike to where you can see the city of Seoul below. Have seen some pretty cool pictures like this from people's hikes but have no idea what mountains they went to. |

The best views of Seoul that I've seen came from Inwangsan (Gyeongbokgung station), which is the mountain to the west of Gyeongbokgung. Namsan is great also, but it's not much of a hike and I prefer the view from Inwangsan. Inwangsan itself is not much of a hike.
If you have your ID/passport (call 1330 to confirm), I'd also go to Bugaksan behind Gyeongbokgung for great views.
Neither of these should take very long. I ran from Gyeongbokgung station to the top of Inwangsan and down in about an hour. |

The national parks of Korea put their info in English a few months ago. I did about 5 hikes using the info; it's pretty complete.
The hikes are listed under hiking courses here:
http://english.knps.or.kr/Knp/Bukhansan/Intro/Introduction.aspx?MenuNum=1&Submenu=Npp
The hiking course info gives the starting points for each hike. Next go to the "Location, transportation" link on that page and it will tell you what subway / bus to take to get to the trail head.
It is good to confirm the bus info with your favorite Seoul bus website. maybe :
http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view/MapBrowser.jsp
All these sites work best in Explorer, not firefox.
The national park website even has 3 D maps of the hikes, not as good as a simple topo map, but interesting anyway. |
