If you are from the USA then you should already have one.
If you don't have it then go to immigration, pay the 50K, wait about 5, to 10 minutes and you're done.
I know this because I had to get one after my E-1 was extended for another year and I found out that my multiple re-entry is not part of said extension. |

Do it at the airport. It takes as long as the queue. |

Get it done at immigration before .... not at the airport. They are getting pissy about that.
And if you are an American, it depends on what type of visa your school paid for/applied for when they got your E-2. There should be a sticker or stamp in your passport that says.
Not sure this pertains to your situation or not. |

1 visit, 1 application form to fill in, and the processing fee of 50000 won.
No drama. |

It's always been that way. When I got my first one back in 2002. I went to the tiny immigration office in Pohang City and the guys said it is free because "England is a good country"
Fastforward to 2005, when I went to Mokdong to get my ARC I applied for a multiple re-entry permit and didn't pay a penny. |

Yes, I can back up that a multiple re-entry permit is free for UK citizens.
For Canadians a single re-entry is W30000, and a multiple is W50000.
Americans must be careful to understand that the original, multiple re-entry on their visa expires 90 days (like the visa itself) from date of issue - it is not good for the 'period of sojurn'. An American friend of mine just found out the hard way when she went to Thailand thinking she was OK because her visa was 'multiple re-entry'... it was not good for even a single re-entry. |

Well put cruisemonkey. A very nice explanation of the difference between a visa (permission to enter) and residence card (permission to stay). |

I've had two visas so far, and for both of them I didn't bother to buy a new multi-entry visa until after the end of the first year of that visa. During those two first years of my two visas, I left and returned a total of five times using only the "multi-entry" staus provided by my visa (and not once was it in the first 3 months of the visa) and I've never had a problem.
In fact, my first visa even says "Good for multiple Journey to the Republic of Korea within twelve months of date here-of if passport remains valid." I think your friend either A) is not in her first year of her sojourn, and thus her visa is indeed expired, or B) ran into an immigration officer in a bad mood. In either case, I don't think what you're saying is right. |

I'm Canadian and got mine in Suwon and it was about a 15-20 minute wait to get it back. |

I'm American and I get mine when I go to renew my visa. It takes as long as the grouchy lady at the counter decides to make it take (usually just 20 or 30 minutes, though I'm sure she could do it faster if she wanted).

-Why is that, it is their job...
I have got it done at the airport everytime i have left Korea for a trip(over 15 times) and never once have I heard a complaint and plenty of people have been there to do it as well...
I will be doing it again that way in 2 weeks time |
