I know its really country, but Ive been offered a real lucrative deal there.
So my questions are:
How connected are the buses to everything? Like how often do they go to Busan and Daegu (and how far for each?)
I saw they at least(!) have a Dunkin and a Lotteria. Do they have anymore chains (Korean or western)? Im wondering if they have any more places to get coffee.
Is the town small enough to ride a bicycle? I heard its like 100000 people, so Im guessing theres alot of old people and students. Any university there? Hopefully with some interesting restaurant or something? Japanese? Vietnamese? Anything?
thanks a lot in advance, Happy... |

| It's just "another Korean town" for the most part, from what I've heard. Nothing really to speak of, it has some western amenities, but not a ton, and it seems pretty "meh" from videos I've seen of it. You could ride a bike around, though it's sort of spread out. No idea about buses, however... |

hey~ my grandmother lives in geochang! she wanted me to teach there (probably the job youre taking), so i had to explain to her that i had signed a contract. I've been there 3 summers in a row and i visited her this past Chuseok. There is an area in Geochang that's pretty in dustrialized. All the modern shops and buildings are concentrated in one part of the town. When do you start?
I'm sure the buses are pretty well-connected to Busan and Daegu (because Busan and Daegu are popular cities). You can check online at the bus terminal site.
You can definitely get around by bike. You'll see lots of old people because it seems like a lot of the old people stay in their hometown and their kids move to the bigger cities. During Chuseok, i saw so many cars from Seoul. There is a university nearby. I havent seen it, but i saw the road sign for it. it's a really quaint town. Im sure they'll treat you well and make you feel welcome. Theyre going to be really happy to have you there. Oh! Geochang is known for their apples.
i've never seen to many foreigners there.. |

It's not that country. I live in a town close to there called Hapcheon and my town is smaller and more rural. Geochang is a fairly modern city with a decent amount of stuff to do, granted it's nothing compared to Daegu and Busan, but when you're comparing to the 2nd and 3rd largest cities it's no contest. There's a mailing list for that city and I'll try to find the information and post it since it's probably better to ask people living there how it is.
It probably doesn't match the mental picture you have of a rural city, so don't worry |

A Korean friend of mine lives there and says it's not as boring as she thought it would be so that's a good sign. Plus, she's hot so that's not a bad thing either! lol
Seriously though, GeoChang is going to be a very small-town atmosphere and depending on how often you get away, may or may not be a decent place for you. Best to think about what you're looking for in a city before signing on there. |
