So my plan has been to come to Korea, teach for a year or two, and then apply for a Masters in Urban Planning back home in the states. I've been in contact with the advisor for Urban Planning at the University I plan to apply to.
The other day I was curious about what recent graduates from the program have done for work and was directed to a page that had many examples of jobs recent grads have taken in the past few years (though I know for a fact a hell of a lot of Urban Planners are unemployed at the moment, but they leave that out). Anyway....
As I'm scrolling down the list I see: "University Professor in South Korea"
The way it was listed (alongside all jobs pertaining to Urban Planning) made it look as though this person is teaching Urban Planning in a University in Korea.
So my question is, do any of you guys know native speakers in the unis in korea teaching subjects other than English??? Is it common?? |

In some of the top universities on their global campus they have courses that are taught only in English and the students, although mostly Korean, are from all over the world. Sometimes these courses are taught by Korean professors; however, all in English with English text books, etc. Other times they are taught by a Native speaker. No mater the professors first language, a PhD would be required in the field you are teaching. These are very prestigious positions. |

Yea, I'm thinking that maybe this guy is actually teaching English in Korea but the department thought it sounded interesting so they included it for the potential jobs after graduation. |

I only know of one guy who was offered something similar with a BA to be a professor of a non-english subject and teach at a Uni. Great pay too!
It's possible, but first you gotta work at a Univ. and then network within....
Chances are it will be in the middle of nowhere....Seoul and Busan have no trouble attracting qualified individuals to do these jobs.
Lesser known unis in the middle of bum**** are much more willing to accept your bargain(likely for prestige). |
