So I've got my hands on my friends PS3 until August and after that I'll most likely get my own PS3 as well because so far I'm VERY impressed with the games I've played. I have a 360 as well but couldn't pass up this opportunity to borrow my friends. So far I played and finished Heavy Rain which was AMAZING and absolutely loved it. I am also playing God of War 3 which is obviously great since I played the first two. My friend also has Mafia 2 which I'm sure I'll like, Streetfighter which I could actually care less about. I went in to see my regular guy at Yongsan and looked for recommendations of games to get and I had a couple in mind too so I picked up:
1) Unchartered (he said this series is great and so far after an 1.5 hours it is fun, though I heard number 2 is even better.)
2) Demon Souls (heard and saw the game review on gamespot and they said while this is VERY enjoyable it is EXTREMELY difficult and don't be surprised if you break a controller in frustration)
3) Little Big Planet (if I like number 1 I'll get number 2)

So that's what I've got so far. I'm looking for PS3 exclusives due to the fact that if it's cross platform then most likely I've played it on my xbox. If you have any other "must play" games that you think I'd like please suggest. I'm not a Final Fantasy fan, due to heavy RPG but other than that I'm open to suggestions. Thanks...........
By the way if you HAVE any older games to get rid of let me know

metal gear solid iv
mod nation racers...if you like mario kart games, that one's pretty definitive

other than maybe a few PSN games (flower?), it looks like you've pretty much got the basics down.

Thanks I might give Metal gear solid a try. In the past when I had a PS2 I didn't have the patience for the whole stealth aspect but who knows maybe I'll try it. My buddy at Yongsan was also suggested Killzone 2, said it's comparable to Gears of War. I did like Gears so should I give it a try?

unlike some other games, metal gear doesnt really force you to go stealth. it does make you watch A LOT of cinematic scenes, however.

i havent played kill zone 2...but right off the bat it's a first person shooter rather than 3rd person..perhaps he meant the atmosphere was similar to gears. it's known for really good graphics and good, but not great gameplay. it was also known for its online, but as it's an older game that may or may not be going strong still.

Ok I just watched the video review of Metal Gear and it rated a 10 on gamespot and you're right as you CAN shoot if you want which would work for me as I've never been good at complete stealth like Metal Gear or the Tom Clancy one (can't think of the name of that series) I just watched the review of Killzone 3 and it looks ok but nothing to write home about. I still can't get over how GREAT Heavy Rain was, so it's hard to top that.

While it may not be as spectacular or groundbreaking as some of the games you've mentioned, I'd recommend Yakuza 3.
Also, Valkyria Chronicles is a very good- albeit very Japanese- game if you are into strategy.
I found Killzone 2 to be pretty boring. Then again, i only played the single player.

Just finished MGS4, cant recommend it highly enough. If youre into racing games, the Gran Turismo 5 is meant to be incredible, as is Wipeout HD

You got PSN? You can d/load Uncharted 1 and 2 demos, and also the Killzone 2 demo for free - i can see the GoW comparisons in killzones setting etc, but yeah its fps.

Ive heard Infamous is a good game too, a fps rpg

You can shoot in all the Metal Gears. It's just not really designed as a run and gun. The challenge is to beat the game keeping the body count as low as possible, but that can be safely ignored. The worst punishment is a lower ranking at the end of the game (and in 3, I've heard that at one point you have to get through a river where you confront the ghosts of everyone you killed, and thus it's easier the less murderous you've been).

The only caution I would issue with 4 is that it might be hard to get into the story without the background. Basically you wouldn't know who some people are or why you should care. I've played 1 and 2 and still get that "missing something" feeling when people from 3 turn up.

I also played 1 and 2 but not 3. 2 was incomprehensible gibberish anyway, and from what I've seen 4 is pretty "far out" there as well.

also, killzone 3 just got released. looks like it's a bit improved from 2, so that mightbe the title to go for if you want to shoot some alien-humans.

Yeah right now I guess I've got a lot on my plate and trying to squeeze in the time. With two daughters it's tough cause I have to either stay up late or get up early before they wake up to find the time. Anyway I'll plug away at Unchartered one and God of War 3 for now. I'll dabble with Demon Souls which even the guy selling it to me said his roommate chucked one of the controllers against the wall in frustration. I did play the Gran Turismo series on the PS1 and PS2 and liked them, though trying to get all the licenses was a pain for me. However I heard you don't have to go through that this time out. It only rated an 8/10 though which has me wondering if I should try it.

As for strategy games they are definitely not for me but thanks for the suggestion.

MGS 4 has pretty comprehensive recaps throughout - I was actually surpsied how much of the games cutscenes was given over to retelling the event of every Metal Gear from the NES through to the MGS3. At times it was almost like a greatest hits, or a MGS 'This is Your Life'... I think you could safely play 4 without the others and still understand the overall Metal Gear storyline.

Are there any games on the PS3 like "Condemned"? That was a thrilling detective/thriller game (I liked 1 and 2) and it would be nice to find a similar game. Heavy Rain was awesome but I've finished it now.

If you get God of War 3 here, it's in Korean. (At least mine was)

That said, it's surprising how well I was still able to follow the story...

Actually the same buddy who lent me his machine has a borrowed copy of God of War 3 which he bought in Canada so all is good as it's obviously all in English. 99% percent of the time I thought PS3 games were all region free and in English, no? I had heard only Final Fantasy series was in Japanese. Oh well nice to know.......
