I really want one of these, but is it worth paying the extra for 3G? Do you find you use wifi/3G a lot?
If you do use wifi/3G is it for downloading books or surfing? Can you just buy books and have them sent to your computer/laptop?
Many thanks |

I have the new kindle 3 wifi one and pretty much leave the wifi off. Whenever i charge my kindle i just take old books off and put new ones off. For me, it is not worth the extra 40 bucks or so. I think it also depends on if you are buying your books from amazon or just downloading books from torrents sites as well. I download them from torrents and just move them m yself. Especially, if you are around a computer a lot. |

My kindle died yesterday. I slipped on some ice and fell on my back and the Kindle in my backpack got damaged. It was an extremely sad day for me.
If anyone has a Kindle 2 or 3 for sell, I'm interested.
Thanks! |

I had a Kindle 2. Now I have the Kindle 3. I just have the wi-fi as the internet is rather slow on it. I tend to download the books to my computer and then transfer. Have yet to need a book at the time I am in a wi-fi area. The Gen 3 Kindle is great.
I have been looking into the NookColor but will probably stick with the Kindle.
If you read a lot and want portability, it's the perfect choice. |

I would say it is not that great. I review books as a hobby and several of them are pdf format. Sometimes the font is so small I find myself squinting as I read the book.
You are allowed to change the size of the font, but I don't recommend it as you will only get a fraction of the actual document so it is more bothersome than helpful. If you are going to read a lot of pdfs you may want to consider the Kindle DX or another company. |

Have you tried changing the pdf to the Kindle file type, so that you can play with the text more (better flow, notes/highlighting) or have you kept it in pdf form? |

I think the article says 319 Euros...which sounds expensive. |

I've started changing the orientation of the page when I'm reading in PDF format. You have to "turn pages" more often, but it's worth it. Other than that, I absolutely LOVE my Kindle. I bought the Kindle 2 in April (I was NOT happy when they came out with a new one with a lower price two months later, but oh well) and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's very easy to transfer with a cord, although I have wireless in my apartment so I usually use that. Just make sure to have plenty of books on there before you go anywhere and you won't need the 3G. |

I was thinking of buying a Kindle for my wife for Xmas, but the wait time for the international editions is like 5-7 weeks.
Any DISADVANTAGE to buying the US edition and shipping to a family member, then shipping to Korea? They have overnight shipping available for the US edition...
As I understand it, the main difference has to do with the charger (and I can just use a converter or whatever I think). I don't want 3G, just WiFi--so the version shouldn't matter...right?? |

I researched this and spoke with a Kindle specialist at Amazon. From what I understand, there is no such thing as a US Kindle anymore. All Kindles are now global. I think the only difference is the charger. You can call Amazon (or even chat with them online) for more specifics, but as far as I know, the 3G Kindle works world-wide now (if that country allows it). You also may have more access to things if the Kindle is registered to a US address. |

Does anyone use Calibre to manage their e-books?
http://calibre-ebook.com/
I've used it with Mac OS X and it's worked like a charm, especially its conversion software. |

I used it before and it worked flawlessly with my Sony PRS-300. The current version doesn't work as good for me, though. I suppose it has all sorts of features that I don't know about. All I want to use it for is to send books to my device, though. |
