I know that there are probably a million threads on Cebu, but I am interested in getting some responses from people who have been there recently. I'm thinking about going there next year and would like to hear some assessments of the place. I'm primarily interested in diving, but other things like nightlife, food, shopping(malls, etc) are also a consideration. Thanks for your help. |

I was there over Chuseok. If you want diving and beaches and tropical stuff, get the boat to Bohol immediately. Cebu is a dump, but it has some fun night clubs. Pump over by one of the hotels is usually jumping with tourists and locals, Mango Avenue is also a fun night out if you are into a bit of a night of slumming. Personally though, I wish we spent the whole time in Bohol. |

Unless you're specifically looking for a run-down seedy metropolis to spend your vacation in, I agree. Get out of there.
If you want a city vacation, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur kick the hell out of Cebu. |

There is NO diving close to Cebu city and unless you are the adventurous type there is no sense heading out into Cebu province.
If you want discos, bars, girls and booze then you can find it in Cebu. You'd be better off going to Clark for the nightlife and ladies.
If you want diving with a few evening distractions to help pass the time and blow the budget, then Boracay or Bohol (Panglao actually) offer the 2 best options for those with limited time in the RP.
Cebu is OK for shopping and the 2 largest malls are pretty decent (especially with the new additions to SM and Ayala).
There is shopping on Bohol/Tagbilaran (BQ and Island Mall) and not much off the beach in Boracay other than D'mall (all tourist stuff at tourist prices).
Anything specific you want to know - ask OR take an hour and read the threads on the subject. They are pretty current (every new post updates the thread) and there is LOTS of detail on many places you can easily access from Cebu city as well as info on the city itself.

I disagree, I really like Cebu and going around the city. It's safe, friendly and convenient but then again, I have yet to hit Davao. |

I didn't face any actual anger but it sure didn't look like a place I'd want to walk at night. I also go harrassed by many beggars and salespeople who don't know the meaning of the words 'no thanks.'
