Apparently there has just been a major train accident in North Korea. Two trains carrying fuel collided. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=516&e=1&u=/ap/20040422/ap_on_re_as/nkorea_train_explosions

An estimated 3,000 are killed or injured. Kim Jong Il had just passed through the station a few hours before.

Wow I can't believe the amount of people involved in this - seeing as there weren't many passengers on the trains themselves it must have been one hell of an explosion.

Chances are slim that we will see any video footage of the accident.

I doubt that Kim Il-Jung was in any danger. I believe that when he is traveling by train that his train is the only one allowed on the track.

I believe he had his own train when he went to Moscow a few years back.

It's a tragedy... and what's more depressing is this - how long do you think it'll take for the Norks to claim it was a US attempt to take out Kim?

3,000 seems just a little high doesn't it? 3.000 people hanging out near a remote train station?

Yeah I wondered that too. And how many people can afford to take a train there? I found it hard to believe there's even a train. I though only Kim J used it. Or maybe there's a few and only one special one for him.

It also usually takes days or weeks for the casualty toll to rise. How did it jump to 3000 for an accident that happened 12 hours ago (at a secluded station)?

It also seems strange that fully-loaded gas tankers were headed *towards* the Chinese border, as well as away.

Something doesn't seem to make sense there. It's a tragic accident, but it's a weird one, especially considering the time and place.

What're you thinkin' Lemon? (not sarcastic, actually curious 'cause something does seem odd)

Did KJI get upset about being told to behave by Papa China?

Is this anything to do with the Korean elections?

Gambling that Bush-ee won't get involved with a close election coming?

We need CNN-North Korea damnit!

When I saw the breaking news alert all I could think of was that a-hole was dead. N. Korea was over, those people would be free, and my life would change (i.e. more English teachers would be needed and hence my pay would skyrocket). I guess that's not going to happen.

Maybe it's an unofficial cry for more emergency aid? Sympathy? Umm hard to say. It could be probable that the whole 'incident' maybe swept under the carpet and we'll never really know what happened, let alone why the original estimates are so high...3,000 people! If it's true, it's an absolute tragedy. Who knows where the first reports came from? It would be interesting to know.
