I just got signed up for a plan with Show (at least I think it was a plan), and the past few days I've been getting about 1-2 texts of spam from some websites. While I'm not really sure what they say, and I know there spam cause I've barely had time to even give my number out and they usually start with some website.

So can anyone tell me how to stop these texts, or how they are actually being sent to me without me giving my number to really any business? And do plans typically count/charge for incoming texts? They don't really bother me cause there in Korean so I have no idea what they actually say, but it's just annoying really. Thanks for any help!

You can block the number in your phone, but the problem is that they keep changing the numbers. I've never heard of a Korean plan charging you for incoming texts, so it's not so bad until you start getting them in the middle of the night. That's really damn infuriating.

The other annoying thing that these companies do is call you, then hang up after the first ring. You see a number, and call it back, and get a recorded message. So effectively, you're paying to be advertised to. That is why I never return a missed call from an unknown number unless they try to contact me at least 3 times in a day or two.

On my LG phone I can add phone numbers to a spam list. There's also an option to block text messages with certain strings of characters on them. Unfortunately there's a limit of 20 I can add to either the number list or strings list, but it gets 80% of the job done.

I'm on a prepaid so I don't get too many of those (maybe 1 a month) but my friend used to get lots until he started texting back, in English, "I'm fine, how are you?". Most companies seemed to get the hint that he couldn't speak Korean and the spam-load dropped off dramatically after a few weeks.

I've tried blocking numbers. It didn't make a noticeable difference. I hate the middle-of-the-night spam texts. I only started getting those fairly recently.
