So I'm preparing to move outon Saturday to my second year apartment somewhere else with a new job. And....well I don't know if I own my pillows.

When I first got here my boss took me shopping and bought me a frying pan, dishes, cups, a bit of food, pillows, a blanket etc.

So, maybe strange question but who do those things belong to? I mean I wouldn't be too heart broken if they're his, though I do hate changing pillows.

Can I pack these things up or should I just leave it all here? Anyone know who owns my pillows?

If he bought them they're his. Some schools provide those basic things. He didn't take that money out of your salary, right? Did he say it was a gift? Easiest thing would be to ask him directly.

If he bought them then they are his. Typically furnishings go with the apartment.

Technically they are his. Though if I was the new teacher I'd toss them and buy new ones (plus new bedding and such). He probably won't have much issue giving them to you if you ask.

Laughing

It's hard to call, isn't it.......two options.....1. just take the stuff and see what happens.....2. ask him for them!

Oh. I forget option 3.....get hammered and throw all the stuff out of the window in a big life-purge screaming naked blow-out. Smile

Is there another teacher moving into the apartment after you?

If so, I would say that the frying pan, dishes, etc, should be left behind. If not, ask him if he will be picking them up.

The bedding can probably be yours if you ask "Is it okay if I take the pillow and blanket or would you rather I left them?". I'm sure the boss will let you know what he'd prefer.

Happy moving!

Don't listen to the previous Posters.

I always keep everything when I change jobs, every year.

Just last month, I sent home a shipping container full of TVs, refrigerators, irons, mops, etc.....

They belong to the boss, sorry. Pillows are cheap enough.
I brought my own from home, though, because it's memory foam and cost $150 (give or take 10). My coteacher though it was funny, but then she tried it. We went to Shinsegae to get her one, and she was flabbergasted when she saw that it was 200,000 won.
Everything my school bought me is theirs. Everything I bought, however (which is the good stuff) is mine.

You can easily replace bedding. Don't fight over little things. Fight over vacation time, pay, etc.

If you're really attached to that particular pillow, just buy a new one and leave that instead. Chances are your boss won't remember what it looked like.

Technically everything in the apartment belongs to your boss or school unless they took money out of your pay to purchase it or you purchased it yourself.

Well, they belong to the school, but at my school, they toss (donate) the bedding and towels (one set of sheets and pillowcases/a blanket/two pillows/a towel and a washcloth) that they provided...coming in to an apartment with a new set of things sitting on the bed, still with tags/in the package helps to make a positive impression....

...so, technically, your pillows belong to the school, but you might ask what they do with them. At my school, you could take that stuff with you (but not the dishes or pots/pans/kitchenware).

This is easy.

Did you pay for it?

No? Then it's not yours.

Who it belongs to at that point is irrelevant.

They are definitely his, but unless he says anything I wouldn't be too worried about taking them with. If he calls you up next week and asks for them back then you can oblige, but if you really like the pillows then just leave something else of similar value in the apartment for the next teacher.
