I scoured the internet for Korean subs but couldn't find any. I even used Korean search engines and added Korean characters... but nothing. I guess older movies like this, Koreans just aren't aware of... such a shame they can't see this classic and fully understand it!

I bought the U.S. edition DVD of "Rudy" years ago and it had Korean subs. I think there are a few North American releases that have Korean subs, though I'm pretty sure "A Christmas Story" ain't one of them.

I'd like to use a clip of the scene where he has soap in his mouth for a lesson on strong language. It's great that the movie shows the use of this language without any actual swear words.

Yes. This would be the ultimate movie for showing students in class. I really wish there were Korean subtitles though...

If anyone finds them, you are the official "coolest person" on dave's ESL cafe. Cool

Well, IMDB has some of the best quotes, but that's the best that I can do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ralphie: Oooh fuuudge!
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!
Mr. Parker: [stunned] *What* did you say?
Ralphie: Uh, um...
Mr. Parker: That's... what I thought you said. Get in the car. Go on!
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] It was all over - I was dead. What would it be? The guillotine? Hanging? The chair? The rack? The Chinese water torture? Hmmph. Mere child's play compared to what surely awaited me.

I believe it is just the subtitles which can be added to a downloaded film using VLC player or GOM or such.

Got the info from here http://www.koreabridge.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6695

I'm pretty sure those are only English subtitles since it only says 영문 and not 한글. www.cineast.co.kr is usually a sure site to find korean subtitles though, so if it's not there then they probably don't exist

Yep. English only. Crying or Very sad

OP--You may be able to order the DVD from Gmarket or Interpark. Otherwise Yongsan might have the DVD with K-subs. Maybe...

If not, "The Santa Clause" might not be a bad movie for kids, and you should have no trouble finding the Korean subs for that.

It might also be possible to download the film with Korean subtitles (as a separate file or hard coded into the video) from a Korean video download site. There are a lot of them out there. Most Koreans that I've talked to haven't even heard about torrents. They pay 500 to 1000 Won to download a good quality movie from a website. Ask one of your Korean colleagues.

As I remember, "A Christmas Story" does have some bad language in it. The father (possible my favorite movie dad ever) repeatedly uses 'damn', 'hell', and even drops 'son of a bitch' a few times. And then there is the hilarious description of the leg lamp as "electric sex gleaming in the window."

As wonderful as the movie is, maybe think hard about showing any film to children with ANY language or content that you wouldn't be happy seeing or hearing in your classroom on a regular basis.

However if you regularly call your students 'sons of bitches' during class, then I say enjoy the movie.

My secret subtitle source GomTV. I find that VCL doesn't work for Korean subs, but Gom always does.
