|
|
Hello,
I have been living in Korea for around 6 months and have realized that my current passport/visa is not re-entry. Meaning, if I leave the country, my visa will automatically be cancelled.
I heard that this can be remedies for around 50,000won, only, I know next to nothing about visas.
I live in Seoul. Do I go to the same place where I got my alien registration card? Is it a long process or simple?
Thanks for your help- any info. is appreciated. |

Bad news is that you can no longer get a re-entry permit.
GOOD NEWS is that you no longer need to get a re-entry permit, no longer need to pay for it and don't have to worry about your departure automatically canceling your visa.
As of Dec. 1, 2010 all registered foreigners (you have an ARC) are no longer required to obtain a re-entry permit to travel outside of Korea.
You are free to come and go as you wish.
If you don't believe me you can stop into the immigration office at the airport (behind check-in counter "F" or "H") and double check to make you feel at ease.
The ONLY WAY your visa will get canceled is if you hand in your ARC on the way out and tell them that you are NOT returning to work OR
if you are outside the country when your ARC expires.

That would be great, anyway this can be confirmed online?
To check at the airport after a ticket is booked may cause serious grief!
Any website address or even a telephone number would be appreciated.
Many thanks. |

Checking at the airport immigration office (because you are a belt and suspenders man (need confirmation)) is no different than popping in to get a re-entry permit used to be.
It is in the announcements dated 11/26 and the text of the particulars is on the hi-korea website.

If re-entry permit is not on passport, how would other countries know about re-entry to Korea? |

I have confirmed what the kind ttompatz has written. I just got off the phone with immigration at the airport and she reiterated many times that 'You don't need re'entry permit." Cool. I'm outta here for two weeks come Saturday. I didn't wan't to go all the way to Mokdong so I was calling to make sure the airport immigration was open. They will be, but luckily I won't have to go. |
