I'm not expert, but when I occasionally read comics (i.e. The Walking Dead FTW!) I use CDisplay for .cbr files.

I second CDisplay. You shoudl read High School of the Dead (Japanese comic but translated) and watch the Anime.

CDisplay works great! I've been using it since... don't even remember. If you have a HUGE comic collection, give ComicRack a try (also free). It is a viewer as well as a library management tool, looks pretty cool and can handle other formats such as PDF.

But for a quick on/off must-read-now, CDisplay works best.

I'm not familiar with CDDisplay, but I use ComicRack. I think it's great, cause you can bookmark, categorize all your comics, read/unread sections, etc.... really versatile if you have a load of comics on hand.

Question: Is there any viewer application for one of the pads or tabs? Meaning, for cbz, cbr etc. That would almost be a reason for me to buy one (although I don't think I could fit my entire library on on iPad).

If you do a search, you'll find a lot of them, some free. I recommend comic zeal. I think I paid 8 dollars for it but it was worth it. It'll play both cbr and cbz files and also pdfs. It's great and the ipad is made for reading comic books.

@riley: Thanks! Now to decide whether I should get a Galaxy Tab, or wait until Apple ships iPad 3rd generation (if they keep to the iPhone rhythm of beta testing hardware on millions before shipping a finished product).

Well... I'm owner of an iPhone 2G, which could do everything my 3 years older Nokia N80 could do IF you made jailbreak and added some features that Apple forgot, e.g. MMS, video recording etc. Rolling Eyes

Then came 3G which was fine until 3Gs came around, which was of course better. And with the 4G there's finally a front facing camera and a couple of things that used to be possible only after a jailbreak.

So, I'm actually quite serious about waiting at least 2 more generations, not that I don't want one. If iPhones and iPads were hardware upgradeable I'd buy now.

Where Apple shines though is battery life. I believe a full charge can get you through an entire transcontinental flight? My iPhone still has no problems supplying me with 11+ hours of music.

For PC, definitely go with ComicRack over CDisplay. CDisplay is nice, but the difference is like between an MP3 player where you have to open each file individually, and iTunes (without all the ads).
