|
|
I graduate this month but will not be issued my physical degree until April. From what I've heard, since September 2010, a VISA will not be issued without a official degree. Is there any chance that a letter of verification will be enough? I've heard there is some grey area here.
Thanks,
Matt |

That's not even close to new. I found out back in 2004 when I graduated that the government here wants to see the actual diploma sheet. |

That might be so, but it became an official requirement as of Sep 2010 or so I've heard. |

So you know that it became an official requirement a couple months ago that you need your official diploma, yet you still ask if it's necessary? |

Like I said before, there's some grey area, like getting KCUE involved in the verification process. If my post doesn't make sense to you just pass over it. I don't need to hear nonsense from another unhappy expat. |

I got my visa in October 2010 with only a letter of verification. I started Nov 2010 and just got my diploma mailed to me two days ago.
At the Korean embassy the lady at the counter looked at my transcript and counted the number of credits I had to make sure I had enough to graduate. The sealed transcript and the letter of verification (well an apostilled copy I believe) was enough for them. |

Your post spoke of grey areas and trying to find a way around what you later admitted to be an "official requirement." I simply pointed out that asking that seemed a bit odd to me. It made perfect sense to me, I just posted a comment expressing my feelings about your question.
And what makes you think I'm unhappy? I am perfectly happy here in Korea. Please try not to be an idiot and post comments that reflect poorly on your intelligence. |

Thanks, i appreciate the response. I found out today that different embassies handle the letter of verification issue in their own way. Apparently the embassy in Canada is more strict and that's where I'm from. Hopefully your Canadian as well??? Thanks again. |

Just be careful about the tone you express in your writing and there won't be an issue. |

Sealed transcripts on special paper is the standard for everyone else accept Koreans . Diplomas, notaries, apostilles can be faked and are faked. Why are Koreans so dumb about this. |

I hear ya. Thanks for the input. immigration is such a bitch. I confirmed with the Korean embassy in Canada that the consulate won't even look at you with an official. Luckily, I found that I can apply for an early diploma release from my university. But of course my university will charge my ass for the inconvenience .
Thanks again,
Matt |
