Does anyone have any experience with getting a Masters Degree while working here? I want to work on a graduate degree and I have free time and extra money. Any pros or cons anyone can contribute would be appreciated. |

I have some lab mates (Korean though) who are part time students, and it seems pretty sweet if you are comfortable with a busy schedule. They have an excuse to skip desk warming both in the lab and at work. No experience with foreigners doing part time studies. |

I'm currently working on an online masters program while working at an elementary school. The masters degree is based at a university back home. The schedule isn't bad, but all my free time is definitely gone. Higher education is worth it, I hope! |

I'm working on my doctoral degree online and the only thing I have found difficult is getting my books. You really have to plan ahead (1 month or more) to allow time for shipping. Some books are available here, but they cost quite a bit more. |

Just out of curiosity, how do you access journals when you're not at a uni? Most journals requires an uni-IP address to read the journals, which I find annoying when I try to study from home. Do you connect to your uni with VPN? |

Same way you do when you are at home (living off campus) and want to research. You plug go through a link from your universities library site (usually) that has you plug in your unique login/password for that university's online portal. Then it forwards you to the journals and you go nuts. |

Is it true it's easier for foreigners to get a scholarship at Korean universities? |

I guessed it would be something like that. According to my school mates, my uni doesn't have any system like that, but it might be a system I don't know about Otherwise it's probably because 95% live on campus

Yes, but it's not true for all universities, and I'm pretty sure it's easier for some majors than for others. The more the university want to increase their foreign student mass, the easier it will probably be to get scholarships. As an example, Korean studies at Sogang uni probably have enough foreign students and wont give much scholarships, but if you want to apply to Postech in Pohang where few foreigners live and even fewer studies, it will probably be much easier. (I have no idea if it's actually true for Sogang and Postech, just using them as examples) |

It's fairly easy because the number of foreign students is part of how universities are ranked. |
