Anyone know of a good boxing club/school, that's foreigner friendly? Thinking of joining a good club for the new year and I've always wanted to learn to box. |

all boxing clubs are "foreign friendly"~~~ but if you are looking for a gym with an instructor that speaks lots of English that is a bit harder to come by. there are boxing clubs in pretty much every suburb... It really depends where you live. |

http://www.guroboxing.co.kr/ is one i found, search 구로 권투 or 구로 복싱. http://www.novaboxing.co.kr/shop/board/view.php?id=gym&no=33 is another, I learned boxing in a gym here, with intermediate Korean skills, and my friend learned with beginner skills, but really they show you what to do and how to practice, and there are usually enough people to speak English or the owner should have basic stuff, plus most terms are in English, i.e. "1-2" "jab" etc, maybe you wont be able to understand some speech, but you can just watch and copy... |

Good for you!
I often help train foreigners in Ilsan when one pops up in my boxing gym. It's too far away from you though. I can tell you that you won't need any help understanding the trainer/coach, for the basics. I have worked out in boxing gyms in Korea for 10 years or so, as well as being born into a family of boxers in my home country. Language is no barrier in boxing until after two years or so.
What Korean gyms often lack are speed balls, and swing balls. I really believe a speed ball is essential for beginners. (Balance and timing) See if you can find a gym with a functioning ball. Also, check out the floor. If it has a little give, then that's good. Trust me, skipping on a hard deck will do you in after a while.
Good luck to you. If you ever move to Ilsan, send me a PM, and I'll be happy to introduce you to the gym I work out in.
