Hello,

Who would you recommend for a round the world ticket?

Also, any experience with Circle Pacific fares?

Thanks in advance.

Nobody.

Price shop and go where the wind takes you.

You can get a long way on airlines like Air Asia (to name but one of many) for next to nothing if you are flexible with your dates and shop by price rather than itinerary.

Not sure about that, ttompatz. One of my friends got an around the world ticket for ~$2,000 US, maybe $2,500, which allowed her to go to places like Fiji and New Zealand, while also doing the standard Southeast Asia trip and finishing up with an overland trip through the Mediterranean terminating in the UK. I'm not sure who she did it through, but it definitely seemed like she saved money on flights, given all the places she was able to visit.

March departure, Vietnam Air, ICN to BKK 150k won.
May departure, Cebu Pacific, BKK to MNL, 100k won.
May departure, CRK to KUL, Air Asia, 100k won.
June departure, KUL to CHC 320k won.

A lot of travel (5-7 countries depending on ground connections) for 700k won.
You can get a lot more for $2500 (2.8 million won).

As I said earlier, the key is flexible travel dates - book by price and not by date/location. Fly in the basic direction you want to go and not just by date/destination.

For sure, but it really depends on what you want to do and whether you have specific places you want to go. If you want to be able to hit up South America and the South Pacific, as well as the more standard Europe and SEA routes, it's going to be more expensive to do so buying individual tickets than it will if you buy a round the world ticket. If you just want to do SEA, India, and Europe, then it absolutely makes more sense to buy individual tickets. It depends on what you're looking for and how long you're looking to travel.

A lot of it has to do with timing and comfort. Every time I've gotten a quote for a round-the-world ticket or a travel agent I've been able to find it cheaper (less twice from xanadu in Itaewon).

If you have time to spare and scour the internet for some deals, sign up for notifications when a deal pops up, and don't mind arriving at strange times I'd say they're not worth it.

Round-the-world does allow you a lot of flexibility and no schedule to abide by. It's really a matter of preference.

Instead of a round the world ticket (Star Alliance) like I did in 2008, I think this time I might try One World Circle Pacific and limit my itinerary to Asia, North America and South America.

For approximately 2.9 M Won (not including taxes), I get 22,000 miles, three continents and four stopovers.

For Example: Korea - Thailand - USA - South America - Korea

If I start with Thailand, for example, I can go overland to nearby countries, then continue on to the USA (Hawaii then Virginia) and then to Ecuador where I can go overland to nearby countries before returning to Korea.
