...language training!
G'day chaps! I don't really have any computer programming skills, but I can build a decent webpage using the yahoo webpage builder thing. What I am interested in is making an online training program for students to learn English. It's more out of curiosity and a new challenge instead of a business venture. However, the problem is that I really haven't got the slightest idea which programming language to learn or if I should just outsource the project to somebody (cheap!).
I've written a few outlines of the training and would have to be interactive for the students and show their progress.
Anyways, I know it's a bit of a strange question, but thanks for your input! |

Learn HTML and PERL or " how to write a java script" then ask again.

I think you are underestimating the amount of skill and time it takes to learn a programming language. I also do not know why you would need to make your own software. There are many programs already available.
Moodle is one such program. Moodle is a free opensource software site builder for educators to assist them in making online learning resources for their students. It is easy to learn and easy to set up and customize to make it your own. Give it a try.

If you do it as a hobby, then that's fine. But since it's a hobby there is also no point in outsourcing it. Learning web "programming" is not very difficult, and if you have a nack for technical things you can learn it by yourself pretty fast at http://www.w3schools.com/ . However, it takes more than just knowing the tools to be able to make a good service.
Is what you want to make something similar to livemocha.com? They have interactive lessons for most languages and also built in social network capabilities. It's a pretty nice site, but the Korean learning is less than optimal because it assumes that you would use the same kind of sentences in Korean as you would in western languages. |
