I heard that if you teach in Gangnam you get paid a lot like 70k USD...

I go to a U on par with UCLA and am a native Korean speaker and was wondering if people like me can get relatively lucrative English teaching jobs...

But I have 2.something GPA...

Also could you direct me to websites of high-paying institutions so I can directly ask them?

some places say that they want ivy league, but as long as its an ivy league school they know. i doubt theyll pay more (maybe a uni may), but other places, they pay a bit more for a masters, but it seems its only 100/200 more...thats really little

Of course not.
Even those who graduated from Ivy schools do NOT command big bucks in korea and elsewhere.
I think that very very few Ivy graduates would want to work for cheap wages let alone work in korea unless they are not getting offers back home. (Unless they just want to travel/live in another country for a spell)

"Near Ivy" usually means elite private universities that aren't in the ivy league. Notre Dame, Georgetown, Duke, etc. UCLA isn't usually included in the list, tho it might be on the "public ivy" list, which includes schools like UVA, UM, UNC, etc.

I doubt it.

I was part of an honors program at a large state school that is not particularly well known but considers itself to be "near ivy." They admit fewer than the top 3% of the incoming freshman class to the program and the year I entered, average SAT scores and high school GPAs were on par with Yale and Princeton.

No one seems to care. Though I suppose they might show a wee bit more interest if it was more well known.

This is interesting,

I taught at a Hagwon where the classrooms were named after Ivy leagues schools. I returned home to do a masters at one of them and wonder what they would say if I returned. Probably something like...oh well...that was just for publicity...we dont really value education here as long as you are white and speak english 100% of the time. Would you take a 100k won raise?

A degree from a top uni often translates into more pay at academies.

As for 70k/hr, that's only the case if you're teaching a specialized subject -- SAT prep, debate, business, etc.

I know the concept, I meant which one he was talking about. I went to UNC and I doubt anyone here (Korea) cares.

Maybe you should explain that it is a world ranked top 50 school?

About UCLA: you are joking right?

The only university in California that I would consider near Ivy would be Stanford. CalTech I would consider a top school too, but not Ivy, more in the league of MIT, and one of the top ranked schools for math/engineering/computers
