Hi Forum,
I would like to know if anyone has any advice on volunteer work in Korea. Here's the situation:
ME. I am in Changwon for the next 6 months(Longer if I can get my GF here) on a buisness visa. I am employed by a forign company and I work a 7/1 week roster where i depart the country every 7 weeks. I live ina hotel and make a good wage.
GIRLFRIEND: Lives in Australia, Has TEFL but no degree, wants to come over to korea to be with me.
Problem: Sitting in a hotel room would make someone go postal after two weeks. So what we were thinking, is that because I have housing (Kinda) and a wage enough to support us both. Is there any way she could volunteer to teach English language during the day through a church? I also have aquaintances who worked at a church up in Seoul teaching an neither of them had a degree.
So my question is: First and foremost does anyone have any information o n the requirements for visas or arrangments needed to volunteer to teach? Can you volunteer to teach? does anyone know of anywhere in Changwon to do this? Secondly, Is there any paid teaching programms through the Catholic church which she would be eligable to involve herself in?
Either option is fine by us. Ultimatley we want to be together, but she needs to find something to do during the day. So if anyone could provide any advice it would be much appreciated
Thank you in advance |

The bigger issue would be her visa. Since you are not married the best she could hope for would be a (repeat) tourist stamp (assuming she holds an Aussie passport).
It is NOT possible to get a (teacher) visa even as a volunteer teacher) without a minimum of 2 years of university study.
She may be able to legally do volunteer work as a tourist but she would need to apply for permission from immigration BEFORE she starts or face immigration violations (with possible arrest, detention and removal) if she is caught doing it without permission from immigration.
IF she wants to work for the church (and is a member of a catholic church) then she should contact her priest about linking up with a church in Korea and getting a "missionary" visa which makes all the problems go away.

If she's attractive, she could do tutoring work. Just put up flyers with here picture and businessmen should call. To teach their kids of course. |

I don't see why she couldn't tutor for free on a tourist visa. |
