I recently ordered a new laptop off of newegg.com and asked my family to ship it to me when they receive it. The laptop is just over $500. I've searched Dave's and it seems that I'll have to pay a 10% VAT tax. I'd just like to confirm that that's the extent of the customs taxes I'll pay. Help is appreciated. Smile

Have them write on the box "small gifts" in English and Korean (show them how) and there's a good chance they won't open it.

Don't use UPS or DHL there are sticklers for charging customs tax. Send via post. Mark the item as a returned warranty repair.

Have them open it and write your name on the box. Post it as personal belongings.

I appreciate the advice, but I got 3 different answers. Is one just as good as the other? Very Happy

Do not do this! If Customs does open it then you will get dinged for the full value.

The best bet is warranty repair or personal goods. Write NO COMMERCIAL VALUE on the customs form. Have your parents remove any price tags, packaging, or stickers that would indicate it's a brand new laptop. If it is a personal effect then it's not subject to tax and duty but if it's a new purchase then it is. As stated before, use the postal service and not a courier company.
