Ok, I went for an interview today. Im going from a sweet private HS gig, but budget cuts, blahblah, so I decided I want to move to a certain area. So I had an interview today. Its a hagwon, but the location is perfect! The hours are really great! Theres enough variety in the kids (adult class too), the house (I didnt see it, but its an officetel that Ive been too).
The two owners are younger, in their 30s, two siblings! They both studied in the West for 6 years, they have great English. They bought the school from another person a year and a half. There has been one teacher whos stayed there for two years, so that seems like a good sign.
They have 60 students, but would like to have about 100. (good thread about asking questions). The materials arent the freshest, but theres stuff I can do. A lot of leeway (Im guessing theyre still learning the business ropes)..they want someone responsible, and I can do that...
Now, the thing is they said theres no insurance! Ive never heard of that. Is it possible. The teacher was there before, maybe they dont know its in the contract? Can they have a teacher with no insurance?
The money would be a little chunk less than what I make now, but everything else seems so great. I told them Id be open minded for the salary if there was insurance, and it would have to be in the contract.
I didnt ask about the days off, but Im sure its the standard.
I didnt want to say too many details just in case someone knows the school.
What do you all (y'all) think? (yes, Im southern). Thanks |

The national health insurance plan is mandatory for all employees. They are likely either trying to slip under the radar or are going to register you as a contractor (bad for you) and want to waive your insurance, and possibly more. You'd be smart to post your contract in the contract review thread for us to analyze if you get a job offer. |

Why do you want to work for people who refuse to follow the law? It's people like you that allow crooks to thrive. |

I think they can, legally, have a teacher and not pay insurance if they've got you classed as an "independant contractor". It's not a very good deal for you though since you have to get and pay for your own insurance (or live without) and not being in the pension plan costs you money. I'd pass on this job. |

Even contractors have to pay into pension...just that they pay the full 9% by themselves. |

Well, I talked to the agent and she agreed about the insurance, so she suggested to them to get the insurance, so theyre looking into now. Like I said, as long as its in the contract, Im good. The situation for the job is perfect for me. |
