I'm sure this topic has probably come up before but just want to hear from any personal experiences. Has anyone had any problems bringing kimchi over to the states on a flight? Headed home on friday and my girlfriend's mom packaged some kimchi for my mom. Never have brought that back home from here so just wondering if it is a common thing to get confiscated. I know the US are fairly strict on foreign fruit/vegetable products. Just wondering if anyone has packed some kimchi in their checked luggage and got home with it missing? And if so, if there was any fine. I'm ok with taking my chances and packing it in my checked bag, just don't really feel like dealing with any sort of problems. Korean Americans/visiting Koreans must do this all the time, right?

There are some limits on what you can bring.

If you are bringing it via carry on you should consider the smell if the container were to open.
Customs might be okay with it but what about the guy next to you.

Cheers for the link..

Yeah, I definitely planned on putting it in my checked bag in a couple of big plastic bags.

Careful with that one, I once put cologne in a checked bag from the US only to find it was opened and all of my clothing was covered in it. Needless to say I didnt need to wear any for a few weeks after.
