| I want to use it in class (for using video on the OHP), surfng at coffee shops, travelling, etc. I heard that netbooks won't play videos so well (due to the cheap processor). And the extra bit of memory in a notebook would be nice, too. But I want a small laptop; can anybody recommend one - Korean, American, Chinese, etc? What about a good place to find one in Seoul, new or used? |

Go to either the terminal building or the seon-in plaza across the tracks from Yongsan station.
Prices are usually marked and easy to read (as are the specs).
In most cases they are price competitive and you can get English windows (flavor of your choice) installed on a used one (new ones have the option of English or Korean).

| TP, thanks for the info. Yongsan is what I was thinking, too. By the way, since we will be in Cebu over the winter vacation do you think it would be any cheaper to buy one there rather than in Korea? I will also be in Thailand briefly so I could check the prices there in Bangkok at the big computer market (name escapes me at present but I know where it is located). Thanks again. |

| I can't really recommend any specific models, but I would recommend you to have a look at thin 13.3" laptops. For me they are the perfect combination of portability and usability. 12" is very small if you want to do any real work, and the 15"s are way too big. My Thinkpad X300 is a 13.3" computer at 1.4 kg, which is even lighter than some of the 12" computers, but still very comfortable to work with. But I'm sure that there has come better computers by now since my computer is close to 3 years old. |

I think ACER is the best brand of notebooks available on the market. It is a Taiwan brand and it is the fourth largest seller of notebooks worldwide. Though I have found that they are difficult to find here in Korea. They are available in Cebu though and in Bangkok.
I have a netbook, but it is a larger netbook and it is fantastic. It is a ACER Aspire One 751 12" notebook. It has a Intel Celeron 1.2 GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive and it comes with an HDMI outlet to transfer video and sound to any TV or monitor. And it was only $300 in Canada. It is by far the best computer I have ever owned. Check it out.
