1) The endless parade of Xmas songs, including hip-hop and remixed versions.

2) The use of the holiday to sell everything under the sun.

3) In the U.S., December tends to be the month with the highest rates of armed robbery or mugging and depression and suicide.

4) Many bad Xmas movies.

5) The flooding of shopping malls with people.

6) Pressure to buy people gifts.

7) The fact that Xmas starts after Thanksgiving and lasts and lasts and lasts (though it's worse in the Philippines, where they start playing Xmas songs in OCTOBER!).

Cool Putting up an Xmas tree can be a hassle.

And how is it different from celebrating Christmas in the East?

Don't worry, after a few years you'll miss it.

I love that Grandma got ran over by a reindeer walking home Christmas eve song American radio stations play all the time. Darn, I can't type on here about why we are once again moving from, "happy holidays," to "Merry Christmas," since that mentions a conflict of faiths we can't talk about on this forum due to a religious discussion ban in the TOS, but I'm sure it's not hard to figure this one out. Yes, they are as of this year officially doing away with, "happy holidays," and going back to, "Merry Christmas."

How could you miss Christmas being in Korea? You can do all the American style stuff you want like seeing colorful lights and eating pumpkin pie, but not have to deal with the drama of insecure relatives seeking your sympathy. Wow, the lights Seoul turned on last Saturday are nicer than anything I seen in the US, but it's all materialistic commercialized bling. My idea of flashy commercialism is large companies make people feel special during their shopping experience where for a moment, they think they are rich with high status, but are in fact becoming poorer in the process. That's far from what is truly Christmas or Winter holiday spirit. I think Christmas had more true spirit before our time and it's unfortunate we don't get to be a part of something more special than it being over influenced by large companies to the point they changed what was a holiday about giving and helping to one of greed, selfishness, and emotional stresses of all varieties. Back in the day when gramps made hand made wooden toys for kids and everyone lived in large 2 story houses with a big pine in the front yard decked out in large colorful egg shaped lights, people were happier having less materialism and more love. Now days in our time, after all the commercialized shopping of black Friday and the newly invented, "cyber Monday," and the stresses it brings, it becomes on big family feuds, over eating competitions, and pot smoking fests.

1) The endless parade of Xmas songs, including hip-hop and remixed versions.
Yes, because endless K-pop all YEAR round is so much better.

2) The use of the holiday to sell everything under the sun.
Cheapskate

3) In the U.S., December tends to be the month with the highest rates of armed robbery or mugging and depression and suicide.
Higher robbery: agreed. Depression and suicide? you prefer your suicides to be spread out but in larger amounts as in Korea?

4) Many bad Xmas movies.
I'd say the majority of movies throughout the year are bad.

5) The flooding of shopping malls with people.
Visit COEX on a weekend.

6) Pressure to buy people gifts.
Cheapskate

7) The fact that Xmas starts after Thanksgiving and lasts and lasts and lasts (though it's worse in the Philippines, where they start playing Xmas songs in OCTOBER!).
Grinch.

Gotta be kidding. Could you be more lazy?

Agree on all accounts. You sound miserable, yaya. Must not have any family back home to visit on the holidays ...

I've had to take a break from going to Starbucks here due to constant Xmas music. I'll stick to the Korean-owned coffee shops until Xmas is over. (I'd go to them permanently if they had chai tea lattes.)

It's nice to be with family during the holidays, there's no denying that - if you have a healthy relationship with your family/kin.

I agree with yaya on this, and I'll go a step further- Christmas sucks in Korea as well.

Now, having holidays and visiting friends and family, that's cool, during the officially-designated season, or whenever. It's the Christmas part that's been all hyped up for commercial purposes and people suddenly feeling the need to attend church that I could do without. Were you really touched by the holy spirit during that Christmas service? Well make a move then and really do some self-work, rather than doing the once a year thing to absolve yourself of the crap you do during the rest of the year.
