If you run.... can they find you?

Not that i care if they find me or not. But... i have been through the wringer with this hogwan foolishness.

My situation is this. I have old sick parents in my home, and late night phone calls from these ignorant igits would cause a heck of a lot of trouble.

I signed this contract in korea. They have no idea of my address in my homeland. They have a photocopy of my passport which doesn't list my address on it. I have no plans to go to my homeland, but elsewhere in the world.

Also... I have yet to get my ARC, i went on the visa run a month and a half ago. Under a contract that offers no return ticket, no severance, no nothing... just getting shat upon on a weekly basis... false accusations, and just general ignorance... what do you think? Can anyone help me.

If you havent provided your parents' phone number I seriously doubt they'd be wily or vindictive enough to discover it. But why on earth did you sign a contract "that offers no return ticket, no severance, no nothing"? Whole story lacking here ..

Run as fast and as far as you can but they'll find you, they always do.

No, seriously, unless you have a personality disorder high on paranoia, you'll be fine if you run as long as you don't want to come back soon.

But if you run, your old sick parents may get a couple of awful phone calls in the middle of their night.

Curious...If you went on your visa run a month and a half ago- why dont you have your ARC yet?

Dont worry about them tracking you or your family down. Thats an urban legend man- these hogwons are all blowfish- relax- it AINT gonna happen.
Also, If it is to the point that you just cant deal with it anymore, and you tried talking it out / dealing with it responsibly, then why stay? Life is too short to do something you hate.

I'm not sure what the variables are- but it seems 1/10,000 get "hunted down." I do know they love to be on the "in" as to where you are so they can "save face" in that they would prefer to know that you're at home rather than at another hogwan. I knew an Australian couple where the owner actually went as far as to phone back a school where they were applying to after leaving and then he got the owner of that school to read off their cell phone/contact number to see where they were exactly.

I think when speaking of the paranoia boat it begins with the owners of these schools and makes the foreigners think in terms they hadn't thought before back home- the whole concept of being tracked is kind of mind blowing- it's not like we're developing some top-secret software or anything like that.

The other thing is they love to gather information from your fellow teachers as to what your next step is and where that might be. So- teachers with big mouths are easy to track. Again- we wouldn't be thinking in these terms if they (directors) hadn't started all this paranoia/revenge crap! Basically- if you really want to be invisible you'll have to cut all contact with all your foreign friends simply because if you're emailing them it won't be long before what you're up to/where you are will be going around the loop. Sad that anonymity is a rare comodity in Korea. The good news is that eventually in a bali-bali society they quickly forget you- even your name.

i can't emphasize enough to you, that you have nothing to worry about. they have no means to come after you. it would be much cheaper and easier for them to just to hire another teacher.

the most important thing for you to do is leave without any suggestion of your intention. if your director is of unsavoury character, and he finds out what you are up to, he could make your departure a little stressful.

when you get to the customs agent, just tell him you are going to visit your parents. he will not try to stop you, and he won't want to.

Leave, that is te best advice that has been given to you. You would have to be the unluckiest SOB in Korea for them to want to bother tracking you down. Get out while you can. Smile

Unless you're returning to Korea soon to work somewhere else you have no worries. They're not going to try to track you down in another country.

If you leave Korea, there is nothing they can do. If you stay, they can find you.
