|
|
I saw this offer on the Korean Jobs section of this board. This has to be a joke. Look at the hours, pay, and living accomodations, especially the hours. Where do I sign up? Any takers?

Working time: 6:30am-12:00pm (M,W,F) for Adult
6:30am-9:30am (T,Th) for Adult
4:00pm-10:00pm (M~F) for Elementary, Middle, High school
Every teacher has the different schedule.
The classes will be taken within this working time.
Teaching hours: 30hours/week, 120hours/month
Salary: 1.9M
Accommodation: fully furnished shared house with a teacher
Commuting time: 10 mins on foot
Starting date: The end of May
Number of the foreign teachers: 8

| 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. would be rough if you are expected to work overtime. I'd insist on a high rate of pay for overtime work, to discourage its use. Otherwise, if you work only 30 hours a week as per contract, then I second wylde in thinking it looks basic, which is not say it's particularly good. It could be nice to walk to work and to share a house with another foreign teacher, and to have over half of your classes being adults. I wouldn't want to work mornings though, nor share a place with another teacher unless we got along well. |

| I agree with Vanislander about shared accommodation. You don't know what your roomie is going to be like, so see if you can't get single housing. |

| I think roommates have a better chance of working out if you aren't working at the same place. As for the job offer from what I read you are working 30 hours but you will be working a split shift. so you will be doing the mornings and then a portion of the afternoons. |

| 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM is standard? I've worked in Korea for years and this is bad even for ELS, which is a school notorious for split shifts. And what's more - you don't get paid any more for doing it. The days of 1.9 and less are gone. Not only don't you get paid much for the hours, but you also don't even get single accomodations. Rough deal. |

is it any clearer?
the adult class hours rock! providing you don't have an evening class
the Elementary, Middle, High school hours are standard.
it is still a total of 30 hours
imo a shared apartment sux but it does have some advantages... 1 is size.

the problem is we don't have a roster to view.... just an outline of the total package..

| That's just the framework of your schedule on paper. God knows that what's on paper never matches what it actually is in reality. Talk to a teacher there to get the lowdown on the exact schedule. |

The adult hours are good, if you like to get up that early in the morning and the elementary middle school schdeule is OK too, but the problem is you have to teach both. But I think one schedule alone is enough - having to teach both is what is so rough. The job offer says "Teaching target: Adult(60%), Elementary, Middle, High school (40%)" which means you could be teaching anywhere from 6:30 AM to 10 PM via split shifts, irregular hours, etc. And I think offering 1.9 million for this is a laugh for that kind of schedule. |

i did those hours in my first job here.. it was only for 2 months though.. the director raped a student and went to prison... the school closed..
it was ok.. right next to chonnam uni. i used to go and hang out in the uni all day eat in the various restaurants, watch dvds in the library and use the computers.
there would be some flex in those hours.. i can't see them wanting you on-site for all those hours... if they did.. so be it..
if they were easy going it might be ok
get the phone number and i'll give em a call just for kicks |

| I don't envy you having a schedule like that even if it was only for a couple months. I'm sure the school doesn't require you to be at school for all those hours. In the case of a split shift, although I have never had one myself, I'm of the understanding that you are allowed to go home in between your classes. The thing about a split shift is that it would feel like you are always at work. You come in the morning and then again in the afternoon or evening. It would feel like going to work twice a day or ten days a week - exhausting. |
