Hi everyone.

I never took business in university, but am interested in starting up my own business when I get home to Canada. Just wondering. What are some good books to start me off? I really need to get these questions answered:

1) What are the basics of starting up a business?
2) How do I register a business and get it going legally?

Basically, I want to take a university course in business without spending the money on a uni degree. I already have a uni degree, don't want another one... can't afford it.

Just to give you some insight into what I will be doing. The business will start small. I want to be selling products and marketing them to businesses. The item I will be selling will come in three varieties, and will be a food product.

Any advice? Book recommendations? What books did you take in Business 101??

Since you are a complete newb, the best advice is to use the internet. It is free information. I have learnt a lot about the financial markets through the internet, particulary subscribing to free newsletters. After 2 years I have a pretty good read on financial things. Info on starting a business is no different. No need for books until one gets into the nitty gritty. Good luck!

The issue is you can't really learn business from books.

If that were true we would have far more successful business around ...

Business is learned through experience and understanding how you can create value and scoop of a little for yourself.
