Now that I am in Korea and working on an E2 how do I obtain another Criminal Background Check (I am Canadian)? Is there somewhere in Korea I can go to get one?
I just want to play it safe and have all of my documents together in case I need to get a new job (visa run). |

Get your prints done and send them off to the RCMP.
Wait 4 months and get the new CBC copy.
Send it off to the K-consulate in Canada for certification.
Wait for it to be returned.
You are ready.

Is there any way to get anything done here in Korea, particularly the notarization. Seems ridiculous to mail it to the Consulate for Korea in Canada when I'm in fact in Korea. |

Does it actually take four months? The website says it's shorter (2-4 weeks) unless a criminal records is found. It would make sense, though, since I've been waiting for close to two months. |

I had to wait four months for this when I originally came over here 2 years ago. Glad I did it then. |

I think the 4 months is kind of a maximum depending on how busy the department is (i.e. how many requests they're processing at the time), I mailed off my request Sept. 30th (from Seoul) and received the CBC in the mail Nov 23rd.
A good idea to save yourself trouble, if possible have it sent to family in Canada, get them to send it to the consulate for notorisation and then have them forward it to you via expresspost. |

Has it changed that much in two years? I got my CBC letter verified by the Canadian Consulate in Seoul when I had applied for an E2 visa in Korea back in 2009. What's with all the fuss now, the fear of receiving fake CBC certificates? LOL! |
