Is this how the new generation are traveling now? Carrying Smartphones around and googling stuff, keeping up to date on Facebook every day etc.?

The furtherst I go is downloading a LP PDF files and emailing it to myself ready for download should I need it.

Dude, if it makes you feel more like Bear Grylls or (more respectively imo) Les Stroud to not have a device on you, then don't carry one.

But if you pop into any cyber cafe to take care of business, such as to book flights/tickets while traveling or read up on anything while traveling around (this includes mp3 or music player of any type for those long bus or train rides) then I would kindly remind you that the type of traveler you are might not be that different from who you are wildly judging here. You're just as prone to checking you're facebook (or is any other traveler) when you're sitting at the cyber cafe. Those are really the only opportunities I have as well even with my device (w/ internet connection). Though I have maps and guides offline that I can carry, and i'm saving a tree.

Should I point finger in another way?(http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2010/12/one-step-closer-to-paperless-wwf-file-format/)

No, because there is a time and place for everything (mostly).
And unless I know exactly how you travel, then I can't judge you.

A tool is only as good as the man who uses it. Maybe you carrying a smartphone or some electronic would make that tool a lousy one.

Self-righteous...

You went onto a thread that is trying help others with applications for their device and you go on to say basically, "what's the world coming to?".

Dude, give me break. And your point wasn't even on topic of what I was talking about. I wasn't talking about facebook or emails, i was talking about guides that help people travel around AND when they don't have connectivity.

I would think you'd have some cognitive dissonance when you're carrying around your lonely planet books, because I don't see how you wouldn't.
