So aside from Yahoo answers advice of putting a hot water bottle on the pipes, am I gonna be stuck with a frozen washer for the next 2 months?

Mine has been freezing up too. I heat the enclosed veranda for an hour or two with a space heater to thaw it out. It's the extra cold water load for sure. |

Nice timing on this post. There's an inch and a half of standing water in my veranda after attempting a load of laundry tonight. No clean undies for tomorrow...... |

Ours stopped on the rinse cycle tonight. The filter mesh at the outlet hole in the ground had frozen the last time it was used.
A kettle of water poured down with some poured into the outlet pipe to break up ice lying in it was enough. |

I fixed ours by pulling the drain pipe out to it's full length (it is a concertina type pipe and it was all squashed up), which increased the diameter I guess, and the washing machine started draining slowly. A few minutes later the ice had all melted and it was good to go.
Hair dryer might be another way to attack it |

If it's not the outlet, turn the taps off and see if there's ice in the feed pipes too.
If there is you can remove the pipes and put them in a sink or bath of hot water. Where the pipes go into the machine also may have small mesh filters which hold water and turn to blocks of ice. Hairdryer or kettle of water may be your solution there. |
