This seems useful seeing as EPIK has ended its application acceptance for the upcoming September placement (ended June 15, 2010).
Any suggestions for people applying for the 2011 EPIK application in March of 2011? |

Get all your paperwork in order (application, letters of rec, passport copy, TEFL copy, etc) so you can send them in as soon as they begin accepting applications.
EPIK works on a first come-first served basis, so those who get their apps in first will have a wider selection of open positions to choose from. |

I'm applying for EPIK March 2011! super excited! I am trying to get placement in seoul, anybody have any idea what likelihood of Seoul placement is? I was reading the September 2010 thread and it seems like people who missed out on provincial placements got put with SMOE, so does that mean there is an abundance in SMOE jobs? |

I agree with DramaAddict get all of your documents as soon as possible do not wait. The sooner you get your documents in the better chance you have of obtaining a position. the deadlines mean nothing and it really comes down to first come first serve in sense considering you pass the interview. Recommendation letters took the longest for me, so if you know who you are going to ask to write them for you, hurry and get that done as soon as possible. For spring not many people applied to SMOE which is why many people were encouraged if you will to apply for Seoul, but the requirements are a little bit more strict than National Epik as you need to have 1 years experience or completed TESOL. Best of luck to you guys. |

What are some good cities covered by EPIK?
And when do they usually start accepting applications for March? |

This is quote from a poster in another thread:
"They (SMOE) have just turned to having EPIK for most of their recruiting and screening of prospective teachers instead of doing it in house. If you want SMOE now, you basically need to apply through EPIK and request Seoul as your desired work location."

The changes went into effect this year. Positions normally advertised by SMOE were advertised by EPIK at the last minute, making it appear that there's tons of PS jobs in Seoul. There's no abundance of SMOE jobs. It's the same as it's always been. In 2011, applicants wanting to apply to Seoul will be competing for positions the same time as other EPIK applicants. |

I am having trouble using the search function so i guess ill ask this here too since it pertains. Is there a difference between using a recruiter or direct application to EPIK for SMOE? Rather, does EPIK prefer you to direct apply or are there any drawbacks to using a recruiter? I am thinking about directly applying but have read that the process if fairly complex and am afraid if I mess up that my application will take longer to be processed and that would hurt my chances of getting hired with SMOE/EPIK. any input? thanks! |

my advice for Jeju is get your stuff together fast. It is hugely popular and not many spots as a lot of people renew there. Also if you don't get it, don't worry. It is not the tropical paradise they will lead you to believe. It is nice though. Oh and yes, apply through EPIK's site. They give you preferential treatment. |

I want to apply for a SMOE position for March 2011 and am currently getting documents sorted in preparation. I'm freaking out a lot about it. I have a first class Honours degree, a 100 hour TEFL certificate and will finish a MA in November but given how fierce competition is I'm not sure that'll be enough.
By the way, I wouldn't mind putting Incheon as second on my list but I've heard that you can't get a job there directly through EPIK, does anyone know if that is true? Also, can anyone recommend a good recruitment company to do the EPIK application process with?
Good luck everyone! |

Most of the Public schools in Incheon are part of the IMOE program. To apply to public schools in Incheon you need to apply to the separate IMOE Program. Most of these positions get snapped up by teachers already in Korea though (it's similar to GEPIK, where many schools interview applicants in person). There are some schools in Incheon that are part of EPIK, but they are very few. |

If you want to work for EPIK specifically, then I suggest you apply to themthrough their site www.epik.go.kr I didn't find any of the paperwork etc. that stressful to get everything in order and I only begun everything at the start of June (which was apparantly late enough for the September application). I felt that not having to go through a middleman made everything easier. I don't know which method they prefer really though.

Don't worry about it too much. I have only just finished my BA (2.1) and have a year's call centre work besides that and I'm flying out to work in Korea in about 18days. I'm also only 21. This makes you leagues ahead of me already (literally aswell paywise). |

How is all the paperwork coming along for those applying for march 2011?
I've been reading on the forums about TEFL certificates. I think i am going to do an online one but does anyone know if EPIK/SMOE has any specific requirements for the class aside from the 100 hour minimum. Do they accept any certificate from any company or does it have to be a university sponsored program? If not, does anyone have any recommendations for an online TESOL program that they have used and know that EPIK/SMOE accepted it? Thanks! |

Quick question, if I wanted to apply to a Hogwon instead of EPIK, what would be my best bet? The Dave's ESL Cafe Korean Jobs Board (or is there somewhere else to look)? Also, anyone know where I can make more money by working more overtime? Like, are there specific cities where teachers in Public Schools are known to get more overtime, or is it strictly a case-by-case basis? |
