I got a cavity and I'm curious as to what other dentists here in Korea charge. I went in for a cleaning to a new dentist. Not a NEW practice, but I wanted a change of scenery and picked one that I was told was "a good dentist."

I actually have two cavities. He quoted 200,000 won for the top and 300,000 won for the bottom. To me, 500,000 won sounds frigging outrageous. I'm going back to the States for Christmas and can get it filled in for cheaper, without insurance from my lifelong dentist. Anyway, he wants to put a cap on it, but I don't think it necessitates a cap. I told him, well my girlfriend did, NO gold, NO silver, just that white filling like a normal tooth. He shot me a look like, "Why not gold/silver?" I could have explained how awful a shining piece of metal looks in one's mouth in these modern times, but I refrained. I thanked them and left with two holes still in need of fillings.

tl;dr - How much did you pay for your cavity?

Also, I live in Bundang, so anyone know a good dentist?

What about Tuft's Dental in Gangnam? I heard good things in terms of quality, but don't know about prices. I'm willing to travel for quality dental care.

I cannot recommend Hu's Hu in Apgujeong. They charged me 30% more than their estimate.

I had two cavities drilled and filled with some composite material for around 90,000 won about two years ago. Just a little local place that was on the floor beneath then school I worked for. It was in Mokdong.

There's no way I would pay 500,000. I would assume for that price the dentist wants to fill it with gold. Seems like a huge waste to me.

I went to UIC Dental Clinic in Incheon. (Across from 2001 Outlet in Bupyeong, near the Lotteria) The new manager was from the Congo! Nice guy, a political refugee. Been here eight years. The dentists are trained in the US. Most speak English.

Anyways:

-cleaning, scaling, check-up: 50,000KRW
-filling with composite material: 60,000KRW
-assistants: Smokin'!

I had a cavity filled for roughly 20k by the neighborhood dentist. I was really happy with the price... until I realized I wasn't getting any kind of anesthesia.

Tufts was a ripoff, IMHO. They quoted me 150,000 per cavity and the guy at reception insisted insurance wouldn't cover. Just so you know, insurance does cover it. If you want anagram, the cost should be no more than 10,000 won. I went to a neighborhood dentist and paid about 35,000 for a ceramic filling.

Ask a coworker for a recommendation, if possible. They probably know of a place near you.

I went to Hu's Hu in Apgujong and had two cavities filled for 100,000 KRW each.
I emailed them before and confirmed the price just before the procedure.

I recently paid 7,000 Won to get a cavity drilled and filled. I actually had a filling in the tooth before but it came out. So the dentist didn't have to cut any nerves or give me any pain killers. He just drilled th area around the existing hole, cleaned it, and put in the filling. It took about 10 minutes tops. I don't know if that's because part was covered by health insurance. I suspect it wasn't. Still it's pretty darn cheap.

For some obscene reason I thought of this thread after visiting the dentist. I need two cavities filled, I'm going with gold.

I realize many people here are complete tightwads, but perhaps being tight fisted with something as important as dentistry isn't too smart.

I bit the bullet and went with Tuft's Dental in Gangnam. Yea, it was more expensive than what other places posters mentioned, but well worth it. I must agree with Kurtz. Anything revolving around dental is not something you should be cheap about. A crappy job can lead to massive dental surgery later.

Tuft's was 100,000 won per cavity, plus free x-rays. Mine were kind of serious. Gina the dentist was patient, painless, and incredibly careful. She only does white composite which I'm thankful for. Personally, I don't want gold or silver shining in my mouth. The staff speaks perfect English and everyone was nice as well. The office is super modern and loaded with all kinds of bells and whistles. Honestly, this place was better than my lifelong dentist back in the states. Highly recommend Tufts.

it sounds like i got screwed over big time.
i had a cavity underneath an existing plastic filling.
went to a doctor close to the express bus terminal. she said the korean insurance doesnt cover plastic fillings, they would only cover amalgam.
she quoted me with a 180.000 krw for the filling. since i was under time pressure (i went to the dentist on friday and my health insurance was about to run out on monday) i took her up on that offer.

it appeared to be a lot for just one filling, but having heard stories from my friends who paid up to a 1.000.000 for some repairs, i figured its the price i have to pay.
now, of course, i wish i would have been more daring and had gone to see the dentist in my neighborhood...

80'000won for one cavity at Implantia (임플란티아) across from the bus terminal in Chungju. Great place, very modern and clean.

It depends on how deep it is. Minor ones you can get for 100,000 from every dentist. If it's a little bit deeper but short of a root canal it's 200 ish
