I'm sure this topic has been discussed ad nauseum, but I'm curious about my upcoming move to Korea and finding a gym to continue my workout routine.
That said, I'm looking to find a well-priced (relative concept, I know) gym that has worthwhile weight lifting equipment, rather than solely cardio machines.
Can anyone suggest any specific franchise, price, plan, etc?
Sorry to [possibly] beat a dead horse! |

What kind of routine are you looking for specifically? There are plenty of neighborhood gyms and most have freeweights. You might not find exactly what you want but you will definitely find something. Most of them are not very expensive, maybe 60,000 a month.
There's a kettlebell gym in Suyoung.
The only thing I haven't heard of is a serious powerlifting gym. There are bodybuilders here, so there must be somewhere more serious than what we usually see. Just haven't heard where it is. |

There are usually plenty of gyms around. However they aren't bodybuilding style gyms. But rather for people who just want to stay in OK shape. The average gyms will minimal equipment. Usually enough for one exercise per body part. The biggest problem I have with them is the lack of freeweights with DBs usually only going to maybe 25kg.
But shop around. There are usually quite a few in every area. Also you can haggle discount prices and bonus months on your membership with some gyms. |

Thanks for the input!
I'm [ideally] looking for a gym with a good selection of weight-lifting machines and/or free weights--that gravitate more to what I'm accustomed here in the US (45lbs plates, heavier weights, etc).
I'm hoping not to loose muscle mass while in Korea, this is a bit of concern for me--vain, I know.
Can anyone field some potential "deals" I'll be offered? I don't want to be taken advantage of, especially since I'm an easy target/fresh-foreigner |
