There's a quality custom Google search of ESL Cafe Korean forums. Clicking on any search result brings you right back here to that post on this forum.
I tried to make the address nice and easy:
searchESLCafe.com (no capitals necessary, of course)
Why bother? Why not just use regular Google (by adding "site:eslcafe.com" after the search term)?
Well, this one is customized (and future customizable) to autocomplete & suggest searches that folks like us do often. For example, a search for CRC = automatic synonym for criminal background check, criminal record check, police clearance, etc. Or, say, a search for diploma will return results for "diploma or degree or bachelor's", etc.
Please give it a try, and let me know if you have any suggestions/questions.

Suggestion: Is there a way of choosing which years show up? Why read posts from 2003 if we are seeking up-to-date info? This would be a handy feature. |

That's a great suggestion! I'm limited in how to implement it, but I think I've completed a decent way:
Just do a search and the search results will come up. Now, under the search box, there's an option called "Show Me RECENT Results".

1. Move the search bar to the top / middle of the page. I don't want to scroll past your text and ads before I search.
2. Get rid of the ads.
Nice idea, really not that useful for me (loading your site and going to the search bar takes more time than typing the search). Thanks for the work though. |

Thanks for commenting! I'm a little confused about the issues you mentioned, since I feel like you might be seeing a different version of the site than I'm seeing. Could you please send a screenshot of what you're getting on your screen?
I've tried to address the issues you brought up below. Please let me know if this makes sense, or if I've missed something important:

I wish I could make the search bar load up faster, but, due to the way it's embedded from Google, I don't have that control/know-how.
Luckily, in my testing, it takes under 2 seconds for the site to load up and be ready to accept your search query. Even though it takes less than 2 seconds for you to type your search query, let's remember our overall goal: getting a quality set of search results out of ESL Cafe. If you can do that in less than 5 seconds on SearchESLCafe.com, I'd say we're doing pretty well.

I still wanted to do something to implement your suggestions, so here's what I've updated:
Now, after you hit "Search", the title & all the sidebar text will immediately fade away, and the search results will expand to fit the width of the whole page.
What do you think? |

Thanks for your support, folks. This evening, I've coded in two new features for you:
- All search results are automatically sorted by "NEWEST FIRST". You don't have to do anything anymore with regard to date-sorting, so ignore my comment above about using the tabs below the search box. That's old now.
- (I think this one's really cool) You can just add ?word=blah to the end of the url, and you'll get an automatic search for that. For example, say someone asks for the fiftieth time about where they can find, I dunno, cheese.
You can just give them this: searchESLCafe.com/?word=cheese.
Want to be more specific by adding on another search term? No problem, just give 'em this: searchESLCafe.com/?word=buy+cheese
Hope some of you can use these two updates!
By the way, please keep in mind that I'm building this thing on Tumblr, which has seemed to be getting overcapacity/going down a lot lately. Me (and several million other people) are thinking that these issues will get permanently fixed in a week or two (and that they're very annoying for now). In any case, if you have trouble accessing the site, just try again a few minutes or an hour later, and I'll bet you'll find it's back.

My bad, my work computer (IE6-7ish) has a crap page with text ads and the search bar at the very bottom. Very tasteless.
I can see the page properly on my home computer and it looks great. Ads aren't even an issue. Sorry for being a dick.
Still don't see it being super useful? Maybe a list of recent/top/popular/common whatever searches?
Off-topic: Someone should just compile info here in to wiki guides and be done with it. |

It's a pseudo-WIKI of info from here. It'd be great if you could add your own questions/answers, and edit the ones I've seeded it with.
The Main Feature: I made it so that you don't have to log in, nor give your name nor any other details. Just write the question/answer, and add a few tags to whatever you write so that others can easily find it, and edit it further if they want to. |

Pretty nice. Anyway, to search pre-made articles? Right now I understand there aren't that many but the list could be extensive later on. Even an index of article titles would be nice (I saw the recent but just like the front page we have to decide a cut-off at some point or it gets unwieldy).
Otherwise, yeah, nice layout and I like the idea. |

1. For the front-page, I limited it to just 7 articles.
2. For the front-page, the articles now only display their titles.
3. I added a search-box to the middle sidebar. |
